SD40VE Upgrades

So there is no difference in the mp sights when ordering as far as slide lock up and fit? I saw both options for the mp shield and mp core I don't wanna order the wrong one

I can't speak to the shield but the dove tails on the M&P and the SD series are the same. I'm not sure how sights would effect the slide lock up. Never heard that one. But a quick call to XS Sight Systems and I'm sure they would clarify.

The M&P Shield and CORE use different sights than the standard line. Those sights are not compatible with the SD series.

You want sights for the M&P FS, C, L, or non-CORE Pro series. All those are the same and fit the SD just fine.

I put Wilson sights on my M&P and so I put the rear sight that I took of it on my SD. I'm sure the stock plastic sight would have worked fine but I already had the spare M&P sight sitting around so it was a free upgrade.

Glad you like your upgrades enjoy!!! i did my own trigger job and got rid of over half inch of free play in the trigger for less than 4 dollars over 3 months ago and 500 rounds still works great if your intrested shoot me a line we can swap numbers and ill explane it. very simple to do takes 5 minutes. shoot safe and alot!!!

Was that with the stock trigger or the apex trigger? and how is the reset? I put a apex trigger and spring kit in my 9 - it took a while to get it to work but I do like it except for the damn reset. It has to go absolutely all the way forward or you end up short stroking. The apex system would be great if you could just shorten the reset.

Hi Steve great info thanks! say could you tell how you applied the motherd to the feed ramp, think I read somewhere you CAN over do it.

To each his own, and no criticism of anyone intended, but this is why I leave my SD9VE alone, except for "cosmetic" changes. Well, I have changed the rear sight with the M&P rear sight which is steel, and I did get the Galloway stainless steel guide rod (17 pounds) but I'm thinking about getting the 20 pound one just to see the difference. (I think the stock recoil assembly is 18 pounds.) I also added a Hogue grip sleeve. If they ever offer a slide cover plate with a design on it, I'll get that...as well as a frame plug.

I'm not planning on messing with the fire control group. The heavy trigger doesn't bother me, and in fact I rather like it on a pistol with no external safety. Mine is smoothing out; sure it's not 1911 smooth, but then it's not a 1911.

Two THUMBS UP on the Hogue grip sleeve!! Make sure you get the large size one, though: pretty tough to get on, but well worth the effort, IMHO.:D

That was with the stock trigger got some locktite gel super glue. And glued that hinge in the middle of the stock trigger closed lol works great... U can test it first just pull the hinge closed w/o pulling the trigger all the free play gone and no file needed lol.... still resets in the same place i just dont notice it anymore. Combined that lil trigger trick with the Galloway springs, and SS 17lb. guide rod. SWEET lol. next im doing Truglo night sights, hogue grip sleeve, and gettin a uncle mikes #15 LEO holster and im done upgrading for now. about 500 rounds thru it trigger function is still perfect.... way i see it glue ever does come loose i'll redo it or order the after market one.

So...and forgive me if this is covered elsewhere, I'm on my mobile, but you just removed the only external safety on a self defense budget weapon. No thanks...

actually i planned on getting one.... still do. thought id try this first it works well sooo ill leave it till i get the apex. i treat this gun as all others my finger never touches the trigger till the sights are on target and ive made the decision to shoot.

I want to install the apex in my so bad I have seen the videos in YouTube look very straight forward but I don't want to ruin my gun.

I install the spring kit and the apex. This is my first gun and I have never worked on one before. I have to say it's more difficult than the YouTube videos make it seem. When I was doing mine I removed the sear housing block and springs and pieces when flying haha. In the video he just hammers the pin out and pulls it out nice and easy but there isn't a way at least in my SD40ve model to pull out the pin and remove the sear housing without the springs coming apart. However it actually is relatively easy to figure out how to reassemble it, (at least for me anyway) to put it back together. I thought for certain after having the sear pieces go flying I had ruined it but, with some patience I'm confident you can make it happen. I love the apex trigger. I didn't dislike the stock trigger but I would recommend the apex. It just has a better feel to it. I think but I could have certainly lived with the stock one if I wasn't feeling frisky enough to swap it. soooo long story short give it a shot. It would be with it. And I figure worst case scenario I have to send it in. Can't imagine I would mess it up so bad they couldn't fix it haha.

Rubber grip enhancers?

I was searching through eBay for different things for my sd40ve and came across some pretty cool cosmetic things you can do. Just curious if anyone has installed any of these kind of grips. It looks awesome but really like the feel of the gun now in my hand and don't want to spend 40 to make it look cool if it doesn't feel right cus that's much more important. Also it just looks like I piece of scate board grip tape. It says rubber but not sure what it is exactly. Any Better explanation and/or recommendations to get this. Thanks

I was thinking with my new guide rod and 20lb recoil spring that if I was able to replace the barrel with maybe a 5 inch barrel that it would really be a dream to shoot! Does the SD40VE have the option to upgrade to a 5 inch barrel?
