My friend had a Taurus and ended up selling it for another gun. It seems like they are pretty hit or miss. I've been tempted to pick up a cheap one for the car but people's opinion on them vary wildly.

I do have a few S&Ws, including a SD9VE and it's been flawless, it think it's the best bang for the buck for a new gun. I wasn't expecting perfection in a $300 gun but it's been utterly perfect so far.

I have the 9ve and love it. Trigger kit, spring kit, and fiber optic sights make it a nice shooter. I have one question. If it is made for right hand shooters why is -9MM- on barrel receiver stamped upside down ? Hold gun in your right hand and look at top of receiver.

My friend has both a PT111 and a SD9VE, both have been perfect through many hundreds of rounds between the two of us. I can't bad mouth either gun, they both go BANG when we pull the trigger and they both are more than accurate for defensive purposes.

I now have both the Pt111 G2 and just picked up the sd9ve today. I just finished upgrading the sd9 with the Apex trigger and hiviz sight. Can't wait to test it out and I love how it feels in my hand.

Back to the Taurus .... its not a bad gun for around $229 (seen them priced as low as $209 w/free ship). The problem for a lot of folks (including me is the trigger). Its long and mushy and because of that I shoot it low and left. No aftermarket trigger upgrades available either :( . I tried adjusting the rear sight for wind-age and elevation (which is adjustable with a screw for both - again a nice feature in a gun at this price point) but I am still off. Eats any ammo I feed it.

If I only had 1 choice and it was between these two pistols, I'd go with the sd9 ... and I haven't shot it yet. :D

Cheers

PS I should add one more down side to Taurus. Their semi-auto models seem to be here today and discontinued tomorrow. I don't think that will be the case anytime soon with the pt-111 g2 because of its popularity but one never knows with this company. The 24/7 G2 compact in .45 acp peaked my interest at one point and it wasn't long before it was discontinued. I can tell you the pt-111 will be my last Taurus.
