It will work just fine. A G19 has a 4inch barrel just like the SD9VE. Look on Amazon even at the G19 guide rods and you can read lots of reviews of people buying them for there SD9VE and saying they work perfect.

Well o got a new guide rod for a 19... And I compared it to my sd9ve and it looked different was a little longer but if it works so be .I wouldn't use it ..best bet get a factory one or after market stainless.. That's my two cents
This is a common mod and apparently produces slightly less muzzle flip because of the difference in spring weight. I believe there are YouTube videos demonstrating this.
I have never shot it this way but I have put my Gen3 G19 rod in my SD9 and it functioned just fine while manually cycling and dry firing. I imagine it would be just as reliable as any aftermarket recoil assembly. That being said I tend to just stick with OEM.

I have replaced the stock guide rod with a Glock 19 guide rod and the gun performs perfectly. It fit the SD9VE and functions as advertised, at half the cost.

I purchased mine from Galloway Percision and stayed with the 17# spring. Works well over the last 3-400 rounds and at half the cost. I did not have any failures with the factory set up, just wanted the extra weight up front.
