I've seen several places advertise these for that price. Is this a good pistol? I'm still shopping for a Shield 9 while I see these listed, too. I know very little about either.

Just about everyone who has one, lives it. I haven't shot anything but an sd9ve and it's great. Shoots right where I want it to and hasn't given me a single issue. Ice only run 300 rounds through it, and 150 of those were by my wife who has no issues shooting it at all.

Is the SD9VE a good pistol? Yes. It's inexpensive, reliable, and has a 16 + 1 capacity. The trigger is heavier than some like, but it's not bad to me. It's lighter than the DA pull on a revolver or some DA/SA semi-autos.

The Shield is a M&P model, so it has a few "nicer" amenities (like a somewhat better trigger, better sights, take down lever vs the pull down tabs on the SDVE, etc), it's smaller (which is beneficial for carry), you can get it with or without a safety, but it has a smaller capacity (7+1 or 8+1 with the extended mag.) There are plenty of people who carry the SDVE pistols, but the Shield is easier for some to conceal. The Shield will run about $100 more than the SDVE series pistols.

One thing you can do is find a range that rents guns, and shoot them both. If you can't do that, then you can handle them at most gun shops (Academy Sports usually has them both in stock, but you won't be able to dry fire them.)

Both are very good guns, IMO, and it just depends on what you want. IMO, the SD9VE is a great home defense gun, and the Shield is a great carry gun. Either one can fill either role as well.

Thank you both for your reviews. Much appreciated. I did go to my local favorite gun shop and found the Shield in stock...all I can say is...ahem, not any more...

At home learning how it works and will take it to the range tomorrow to see if it shoots as well as it looks.

Thanks, again!!!

You can't go wrong by purchasing the SD9VE or the SD40VE. It's about as close to owning a Glock, but, for about $300 less in price. It goes "BANG" EVERY TIME you pull the trigger. Speaking of, if you don't like the trigger, you can install an APEX spring kit and trigger, and still be $200 cheaper than a Glock, but, will feel like you're actually shooting a Glock.
Except for the 2X4 feel of a GLOCK! :D
