SDUD Model 10

Pickek up a Smith model 10 6 inch a couple of gun shows ago. It is pristene and helped in my quest to find all barrel lengths of model 10 and at a great price since it had SDUD and Miramar Collage stamed and electro penciled on the side. The 10 is a 1963 10-5. Does anyone know the history of these guns, the dealer said he was able to pick the best of 6?

I'm curious what SDUD means. Miramar College is in San Diego so I guess SD is for San Diego, but what the heck does UD stand for?

Too bad about the eletro-pencil engraving. That always looks awful.

I attended the San Diego County Regional Law Enforcement Training Center, at Mira Mar College, in 1982-83. (San Diego Police and County Sheriff, among others) At that time San Diego Police issued 6" M-10's. I thought that a strange BBL length at that time. Officers had the option of buying their own revolver providing it was a Smith and Wesson, Colt or Ruger, only

That model 10 may have been a range gun as Mira Mar Collage had it's own pistol range on site. Shotgun practice was held at the Home Ave. /HWY94 range about 15 miles away.

Thanks Poordevil, were there a lot of revolvers at the range. This one looks hardly used.

I don't know about that, but every San Diego Officer Cadet got the 6" M-10 and I believe kept it even after buying his own Smith Heavy Barrel or Colt Python (I remember 3 of those). So a lightly used 6" M-10 could have issued then put away in favor of a shorter barrel model.

The Sheriff Office issued 4"BBL M-66's and Remington 125 gr SJHP .357 mag ammo. One could buy his own, but it had to be a 4" M-66 as well.
