Sear and Sear spring installation in 442 Hammer

Welcome to the forum........I use a bobby pin to hold the spring. (new style MIM hammer)......addn info here:

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-sm...ly-replacement-sear-spring.html#post140786292

Using a straightened bobby pin........Insert the free end of the spring opposite the bobby pin into the cavity in the back of the sear, and while holding the sear and compressing the spring with the "tool", push the sear, compressed spring and bobby pin assembly into the cavity in the hammer all at the same time. Once the spring is inside the cavity, and while holding the sear in place with your finger, carefully remove the bobby pin.

After the install, be sure to verify the ends of the sear spring are inside both cavities.....the one in the sear, and the one in the body of the hammer......and that the sear pushes in and returns out freely, with no evidence of "clicking" or binding. Additional fitting to the gun is usually not required.

Many here on the forum suggest using a clear plastic bag to enclose the "work area", which reportedly reduces the propensity for the spring to fly into parts unknown at the most inopportune time.
