Search for a new EDC Revolver

I may pick up a 442 and have it converted to 9mm.

Be prepared for very sharp recoil.

Here's another vote for the 640 or 649. I've carried the former for nineteen years, and the latter would be my second choice.

My hands are severely arthritic and I have carpal tunnel syndrome as well. I don't mind the additional few ounces of weight of a steel J-frame, given the greater comfort of shooting one.

I had a Ruger LCR in .327 Mag that I foolishly sold a while ago that would be a great option for me at the moment.

That's exactly what I would recommend. Between the light DA trigger pull and ability to shoot a range of ammo, it's the perfect gun for you.

I think it's the only non-sentimental gun I own that I know I will never sell.

I ended up purchasing a 351C that arrived today. Picked it up after work. I like the fact that I can re-grip it and it will be identically dimensioned as my 43C and 342PD. The Big Dot front sight is nice, same as my 43C and its super fast to acquire a flash sight picture. Will be taking it to the range and after some familiarity shooting for where it hits and verifying reliability....it will go into its intended role, my new EDC revolver.

Nice. I have long been a fan of 22 magnum and would like to have a 351. Maybe someday. For now, I scratch my itch with my lcr that caliber.

By the way, my wife had the same surgery as you. It took her a year, but she is finally happy she had it. Hopefully, your issues will straighten out.

Thanks...I am hoping that with time it will get better....but its goofy enough that I am kinda puttin off the needed surgery on the right elbow until the left one recovers. Pain blows, but I need at least one good wing.

The LCR's are really nice revolvers, but for carry the S&W AirLite J-Frames are so much superior in my opinion. So much that I am probably going to hang onto my 342PD and search out some lighter loads for it, maybe even a wadcutter as someone previously suggested.

Sad thing is that I will have to part ways with one or both of my 317's in order to "justify" the 351C addition.

Kollector03, I completely agree with you that J Frames are better than LCRs, but the price was right and I wanted a 22 Magnum snubby.

Do what you have to do, but this forum is filled with people that wish they still had "that".

You always miss the ones you let go.

I have a 9mm cylinder in my 60-14 and it is a very gentle recoiling revolver. Extremely manageable. Not sure how it will be in an alloy frame like the 442 though.

Interesting. I think you're the first person to say a 9mm is soft shooting in a J frame. I'm not necessarily questioning you, it's just I hear so many reports to the contrary. Maybe someday I can shoot one to see for myself.

It was truly very manageable. Steel frame 60-14. I'm sure the Alloy 442 will be a little more stout. Even the defensive 9mm ammo I tried (147gr and 124gr JHP) was very mild recoil.

After 50 years of searching I find the S&W model 637 Airweight in 38 special does just fine. Hammer and all .
Contrary to popular belief the exposted hammer is NOT a problem ... I Like It !

I have persistent problems with trigger finger and possible cysts in the tendons of my shooting hand. Surgery remedied one finger, then I developed issues with two more and the thumb. In any event, I had to give up my Airweight J frames. Wish I still had my 640! I currently carry a Shield 9mm and it isn't so bad to shoot.

I like how the new frames kind of cover up the hammer more than the older style. Less of it is sticking it out. I would think it makes it a bit less snaggier.

This.

And switch to .38 wadcutters for your carry ammo.

Will .38 Wadcutters present a problem with the Titanium Cylinder?. Have to do some more research on this subject as I thought Jacketed bullets were required in the Titanium Cylinders.
