Searching for........ Coffee filters

Karen loves her coffee's. First thing in the morning and last thing at night.

When in the US the first thing she does after we check into a hotel or motel is make a coffee, using the coffee maker and the flat round filters that fit into the top of the machine.Trouble is that there are only two regular and one decaf filter in each room, so I get sent down to reception to try to get some more for the morning just before we go to bed..

The usual fix is we buy a jar of Nescafe, which she enjoys, but not as much as the filtered coffee. A spoonful in the "cup" and plain water through the machine gives her a caffeine fix. But it doesn't last.

Last time she had me looking for more of the filters every time we went onto a Dollar General or Walmart. I found plenty of the little pods but none of the filters.

With our next trip approaching I have bene given a task, find out where we can get a supply of the round coffee filters that the hotels use.

Any suggestions?

You must be talking about the prefilled filters. (Yuck) Poor excuse for coffee. Stop by any market and buy a bag of coffee grounds and a stack of filters, probably the cupcake style. They come in two sizes, small (4-8 cup) and large (8-12 cup). The pods make great instant coffee, it's that's your preference.

Buy a French press. Then you can make good coffee anywhere there is good hot water. I carry one in my on the road kit.

You simply put in the amount of coffee to get the strength you prefer for a couple cups, pour in the hot water, wait 30 seconds or so, then put in the plunger and slowly press down and the plunders screen presses the grounds out and leaves you great coffee.

Places like Walmart have a variety of them form $12 on up

I worked for Starbucks in '93 before it became a "fast-coffee" store. Numerous types of beans on hand, ground to order. We had one-cup size presses, and I'd use them to make coffee samples for customers. I sold a ton of beans that way. Presses are the way to go for good coffee. Kind of miss the "old" SB.

For travel, I'd buy Disposable Drip Coffee Filter Paper Bags. They come in 50 or 100 count and are compact to carry and slick for a quick cupa with their hanging ears.

Many are made in China, so you should be able to find them where you are located.

Post Covid, I've found many hotels have cut out the free coffee to save money and or push folks to the coffee places in the lobby. I now plan to include a Starbucks run while on my morning walk. Besides most of the free coffee in the room looks and tastes like used motor oil. Worse yet, is the powdered 3 in 1 crud they often offer.

I appreciate the thought behind hotel room 'courtesy' coffee, but . . . no. Just can't do it. I also understand why it's not so great . . . if a place had a reputation for great in-room coffee they'd go broke with people filling their suitcases with it - as it is, I'm guessing the majority of people hardly ever avail themselves of it unless they're desperate for a fix. So it's a "perk" (no pun intended) that they offer that doesn't cost them much.

Coke IS a good eye opener, and maybe some Amaretto for that extra kick. I'm talking about Coke, the drink, not the Peruvian powdered sugar. Gin w/orange juice works well on a "Sunday mornin' coming down."
