Found a very nice "slightly used" 6906 the other day. I've got one already but this one was just as nice and I really feel the 6906 is one of the top three 3rd Gens out there for overall value, practicability and carryability. I sure wouldn't mind owning another one. Even my long-suffering wife encouraged me to snap it up. But I've already hit my acquisition quota for 2014 on both 3rd Gens and overall firearms acquisitions. Yes, I've vowed to make an exception for any 4506-1 I might someday stumble upon, but other than that, the plan says I am done until next spring. :(

Well, that 6906 sold two days ago... :( ... and I am alternately patting myself on the back for my amazing self-restraint and strict adherence to the plan and my very tight budget... but then I keep getting these feelings that I blew yet another golden opportunity once again, just like I have more than a few times in the past. I think they call that being "conflicted." :(

So did I do good or did I blow it again? Or maybe a little of both? :o What should a dedicated 3rd Gen addict have done in this case? Was I right to pass it up in the faint hope of possibly finding a 4506-1 this winter? Or should I have said "What the heck" and gone for the opportunity that was sitting there right in front of my face? :( So what if it meant putting it on plastic. :p

This is Massachusetts remember. No "non-list" or "pre-list" imports allowed... and good condition 3rd Gens don't exactly grow on trees around here. :o

Conflicted... conflicted... conflicted. :(

Should have grabbed it .......... having a back-up is a good idea!!!

With Mass. laws ......... it's not easy to just get the/a gun you want or need. While I don't have guns as an investment...... they hold their value pretty well........ so to me Cash or gun is the same.....If you buy right you can resale the next day for at least 80% of what you paid.........

Sounds like you really want a 4506-1. I think you did good by saving the money and waiting for the 4506. It will show up and you will be ready! :)
Oh man, I hope you are right. :)

I guess the big question is this: Is God impressed that I did good and finally going to reward me with my 4506-1? Or is he laughing at me for blowing off that 6906?

I wish I knew. :o

first of all you said your wife encouraged you to get the 6906...and it was a nice and not worn out LEO variant..and you are right that they are one of the most under appreciated models...and you try to justify all this by reasoning that a 4506-1 may happen to show up (BTW not relevant one is a 9mm and the other .45ACP:D)..................................................yeah....you blew it:p..............and if it makes you feel any better I get "conflicted" a couple times a month:o

Well, at least I'm not the only one. ;) That makes me feel a little bit better. :D

Hold on to your $ and buy next time. Don't waste your time crying for a lost deal. It's gone. Move on and look for the opportunity...

Ditto..................there will be a next time......... course might not happen for years......LOL ....Sorry LOL

Good luck on the 4506.... I really like my 4566....wish I had kept the 4505..I blew that one!!!!!!!!

Only you can know your finances and what you're comfortable with. If it's a burden then obviously you did good by not buying and don't need us to validate that. If, on the other hand, you had spare change then by all means buy.

Don't buy if you can't afford its just a gun and it won't help you if you loose your job or get some unexpected bills. I know people who live on the edge of homelessness. They work and have a good income but they won't last 6 months if something were to happen financially. On the other hand my best friend always puts need in front of want. if he wanted to he could live comfortably without a job for a year. Everyone has their comfort zone and you have to know yours

Have no regrets TTSH, you did absolutely the right thing, which was to walk away. Hey, you already have one! I know, I know "more is better" but that 4506-1 just might appear tomorrow or next week and then what are you gonna do? And by the way my 4506 no dash is my favorite 3rd Gen.

By the way TTSH, YOU ARE THE ONE who provoked me into putting on lay-a-way an unfired 4566! Remember that? Lol. And, I'm VERY happy you did. I should have it in a few weeks. In case you forgot you can re-read your comments in post #6 in this thread.

Sure wish you could shop the stores and pawns out here, they seem to always have a 3rd Gen or two in stock. I've even had to temporarily ban myself from entering these establishments. until I've reached full recovery.

It's all a big balancing act. I believe in having an identical back-up for any gun which I may use in a self-defense role. But I also do not want to have too many guns which I might not use on a regular basis (which I have already violated many times). And you have to watch the budget, well at least most of us do.

I really do not "need" anything right now although I do have some firearms which are on my "buy" list if they pop up and I can afford them. An early Colt Ace, a S&W Model 15 (-3 or earlier) 2" barrel, a Seattle-era Detonics CombatMaster to name a very few.

If you didn't buy it, then it wasn't meant to be at this time. Don't beat yourself up for it. That's OUR job.

I saw it... I thought about it... I didn't buy it. I have one and I love it, but I'm not in the market for another one.

Someone wanted it, because it was listed for about 4 hours before it was gone.

A 4513, sure. A 3953 or 3954, probably. If a 3914DAO ever shows up, definitely.

Other than that, right for now, I'm good on 3rd generation guns. At least for now.

TTSH I can relate to your issue. My latest want pistol is a PC 1911, but while watching one of the auction boards a 3913 TSW Rail model came up for sale, this is the only 3913/3914 model that I don't have, so I bid on it with a lot higher maximum bid than I should have. I had the bid for three days but lost out in the last 1/2 hour. I was disappointed and relieved at the same time. So now that PC1911 is still at the top of my list.

If you weren't in MA, I'd say you defiantly did the right thing...but I still think you did the right thing.

If this helps I've done the reverse, was looking for a 3913/14 or a 4513/16 but saw a 2" model 10 for a decent price and he was wanting a G19 so we traded and I got the 10 and some extras...three days later saw a 3913 for a great price but had no money and he didn't want to trade for anything I had (he did list a G19 though.) so I missed out.

Hope you can get that 4506 soon! :)

EDIT: I love the model 10 though so I'm not to sorry. ;)

Once upon a time long, long, ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I carried a 669 in a horizontal shoulder holster. Always, carried it. Until one cold December night the caliber failed me. Without going into detail, I emptied one magazine, connecting with all but one shot, with zero effect. Was forced to finish off with a blade. Traded that 669 for a 4516 the next day, Never regretted it, & the 4516 even fit the same holsters, after a little persuading. So no, I don't believe you erred......

Dang Broker50, Your story just begs for more detail!

Here's how sick I am: Not only do I keep a record of all the 3rd Gens I've bought... but I keep a record of the ones I've lost as well. I keep it as a reminder to myself to either act fast or be prepared to suffer more anxiety, second guessing and regrets. :(

Good luck on the 4506.... I really like my 4566....wish I had kept the 4505... I blew that one!!!!!!!!
Well, again, I had a chance to buy an early 4506 (no dash) and decided against it due to the crappy non-Novak sights. Only later did I realize that the slide could be re-machined for Novak sights, albeit at some (non-trivial) cost. :o So I am still searching for my 4506-1. They say they are out there... but you can't prove it by me. :(
