I think there would be a vote and there is a good chance the background check will pass (there would be no filibuster), many so called GOP will give up at the last minute, as there are not really leaders, they are politicians whose only concern is themselves! Also the amendment may also pass!!!!!
Why anyone would yield to the pressure from Obama? I don't understand!!!!

Reid: Senate vote on gun measures could come as early as Thursday - First Read

well it does have to go through the house. hopefully with a republican majority we are safe. but I still don't trust them. lol my goodness, we really do have a bunch of losers making decisions for us. why do we even bother? I think we are all getting very tired of living under the direction of communists. this is getting very old.

Cruz, Rand and Lee are leading the pro-freedom effort to preserve our Constitution. They may not be the official republican leadership, but they certainly are leading the way.

It is now certain that there would be a vote!

Obama has been extremely masterful in politics, he will get what he whats because he is an extremely proficient demagogue. It is almost certain that Universal background will pass (there would be no filibuster) and the DiFi amendment is likely to pass!

Too bad more and more GOPs are really RINOs, they stand with Obama, and they won't face penalty next year!!!!

I have not read the bill, but the big question that comes to my mind is, who is going to pay for all these "background checks"? The obvious answer, buyers and sellers. Ok, so are we going to have to go to dealers every time we want to do a transaction? I could see some dealers gouging transfer fees and some may have to charge extra for additional staffing and paperwork. Some may not want to participate because of the extra time and paperwork hassle.
The whole thing is going to create a paperwork mess and may cause more guns to be pushed in to the black market. Which would then have a reverse affect. Don't get me wrong, I understand that the point is to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and I agree with that principal.
Some solutions I could see is allowing more non-dealers or non-store front collectors to access to Federal Firearms Licenses, allow citizens to use the NICS system, policy that allows non-residents of a state to purchase handguns from dealers in other states with a NICS check, a fingerprint system, etc. There are several other things that would help weed out a lot of negatives that comes with the gun industry.

It is the government involvement I 500% hate, because universal background check will be used secretly for database purposes. If the government gets out of this, I will fully support Universal background in a way that every transaction (except loan or transaction between relatives) gets instant check, similar to credit check done by Credit Reporting agencies, and the government should absolutely have no access to any gun purchasing record except when a person is involved in a crime. Basically you pay a nominal fee and print a receipt (with code encrypted to prevent fraud) and show to a seller before you buy a gun, government sends criminal record of individuals to Credit Bureau and let them to get involved with the NCIS, Government stay out.

Once again, democrats are about gun control and controlling people!!! I absolutely support any laws that are designed to combat crime, yet w/o creating bureaucratic headache and tools for more government control!!!!!

If I sell my gun to someone I don't know, I insist background check and I will discount the price by $40.

Universal Background Checks willl be a boon to FFL holders if they can name their price. They will profit from every transaction, my nearest brick and morter shop charges more for transfers for Gunbroker purchases or from dealer like Buds if he stocks or has access to the same firearm. If the government dictates the fee that FFL's can charge and it's ridicilously low, they will simply refuse to do the transfer. Either way the costs associated with our hobby will go up...

NICS is having a meltdown now with a over load of background checks,{just saw that on the CMP web site} what will it be like with background checks on all transactions..?

I wrote (again) to all of my Congressmen, as follows:

Please vote against all new proposed restrictions on guns. Instead, enforce existing gun laws.

I am a voter in your district.

You need to understand that criminals, by their very nature of being criminals, do not follow the law.

ALL of the proposed gun control legislation will ONLY burden law-abiding gun owner, and will have ZERO impact on gun violence.

I am watching your votes on gun control, and shall vote accordingly and ask all of my friends to do the same in every election.

Thanks.

Thank you for your efforts, this is the time for this type of effort. The very least we all should be doing is using the S&W (or Hornady, Ruger) sites to contact our representatives. We live in serious times.

They may think they are having their day now....come election time...they will pay for not listening to their citizens and respectingn the second amendment and the constitution....and they will face a penalty. We need to remember who stood for our freedom....and who trampled the second amendment and work hard to remove the ones that need to be removed and support the ones that supported us. We get what we deserve and have no one to blame but ourselves, next time, I will work to make sure the oathbreakers are not elected....we can never lay back in an election, we need to get active...and this is the reason why. Its up to all of us.
