Would be it a problem to send in an M&P to S&W for warranty service with an Apex Competition kit in there?

Yes. You may not get them back.
Recommend removing all custom parts and restoring to stock configuration.

One of our shooters is mad because he found this out the hard way..

Are you saying S&W would remove custom parts without asking the owner for permission?

That's not good customer service, is it?:(

This is the disclaimer:
"Since we cannot assume responsibility for custom parts and accessories, such as stocks, special sights, or holsters, please remove these items before returning your firearm. "
Shipping/Returns - Smith & Wesson

That's the risk you take, if they're gone, they warned you,
just saying......

If S&W works on a gun, they have to return it to factory specs for safety and liability reasons. I feel they should send the custom parts back though, I didn't hear the story mentioned above of them keeping/tossing the custom parts..... I would be quite upset if that happened.

This is going to be painful ... it took me quite a while to get the whole Apex Competition Kit installed. It would not be fun to remove it and re-install it when I get the gun back.

I had a dead trigger (failure to reset sear) with my M&P Pro 9mm. :( I could send it to the factory for repair/upgrade under warranty. It has the Apex Tactical competition kit. I paid $32.50 and shipped the sear housing to Apex Tactical for their upgrade. That rather than swapping out the kit.

I heard this type of nonsense about Colt CS also. When I needed service I called Colt CS and told them I was sending my gun in with a customer trigger, main spring housing, beaver tail safety, hammer, grips, and a low mount thumb safety.. They told me my issue had nothing to do with any of those things and there was no need to go to the trouble of converting the gun back to stock.I suggest you save yourself a lot of time and trouble and call Smith CS for verification. That way you will know for sure.

That's a good suggestion. I will do that if their CS dept phone system is back on line. It was out for more than 2 weeks while they were integrating the Thompson's CS.

No matter what the factory might say, I would not send a gun to them for service with non-factory parts in it. I would also not use the original box for the gun to send it in.
Many years ago, I bought one of the first Model 645 pistols to show up in my area. I had Wayne Novak do some custom work on the pistol, and shortly thereafter was notified by S&W that there was a recall on the gun. When I sent it in, the Novak custom trigger parts were removed and not returned to me and standard parts were installed. On top of that, I (foolishly, I guess) sent the gun in the original box. When the pistol was returned to me, it came back in a box with no label on it. I was quite annoyed!

I interacted with CS Dept and they said it's fine to send it in with it. If they do need to remove it, it will be returned.

I specified it very clearly in the letter that accompanied the gun that I want any custom parts returned to me if they ever need to replace it.

Please let us know how this works out for you. I would like to know that they did return your gun with the parts installed or in the package with them.
Frank.

I have sent it in to fix an accuracy issue at longer distances and, personally, I do not think it has to do with anything outside the barrel. I would be surprised if it did.

So, I do not think they would even look at the trigger system but , then, I am not a professional pistolsmith. :)

Will keep you guys posted of what happens.

My pistol was tested at S&W and they said it was within their specs and they sent it back. Nothing was done to it. My Apex kit is still in there.

Ive heard of and had one come back to me with the old parts in the package. Mine was just a screw and the old worn out hand...Wait, did I get the parts back because I actually paid them to repair my gun?

hmmm if thats the case and they don't return parts that were replaced under warranty then my post here is just taking up space...
