Should the numbers on the yoke match the serial # of the gun? If they should and they don't, how much does that affect the price when buying/selling?

The only real serial number is the one on the butt of the grip frame. Most of the the numbers in the yoke are assembly numbers and have no meaning once the gun leaves the factory. Some newer models have the serial number on the butt and in the yoke or on the left side of the gun above the trigger. It depends on what year of gun you're talking about, it changed some over the years. Give us the model and dash number of your gun and we can help more.

Dick has the correct answer - maybe. Prior to 1957 revolver parts used to be "soft fitted", then separated for processing into a complete gun. The frame and yoke/cylinder were numbered to ensure they were put back together at final assembly. After 1957 revolvers with Target stocks usually have the serial number on the frame under the barrel, and there are various inspector and fitter's numbers that make it onto the yoke also.

Thanks for the info., guys. I have a Model 58 (no dash) from 1966 that has a different number on the yoke from the serial # on the frame. Good to know that's normal!
