Hello. Can anyone help provide me with information/background on a possible victory model? It is serial number 589854. It does not have "v" present. It has a parkerized finish and smooth walnut grips. It is stamped US Property on the top strap. Is it warttime GI issue or government assistance to private security contract? Thanks for any help.

That serial number with no prefix would be from the 1920's.

Welcome! From your description it sounds to be a Victory Model. Can you give the barrel length (cylinder face to muzzle) and the caliber stamping on the right barrel?

Also, looking at the bottom of the grip frame, is there a V to the left of the lanyard ring and the digits to its right?

Wow, I am impressed with the quick replies! There is no "v" to be found. I said parkerized but it is more of a dull/matte finished bluing to where it looks grey. Would this make it an Army issue prior to the victory series? Would this have been used by the military during the war? I am not in possession of the firearm but was considering adding it to my collection of US WWII military weapons if it qualifies. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

No V?
No C?

Without pics I can't help much more. Like I said- 20's gun, maybe 30-31.
I know of no contract in those years.
Pics.......

Another thought - which way does the SN read, with the barrel pointing left or right? Are you certain the first digit is not a "6"?

It is a 5 inch barrel. The serial number reads to the outside of the swivel. That is, the barrel points left as you read the serial number from the swivel to the backstrap. Thanks.
