Hello there, I am new to the forum, and would like to say I have just purchased my first S&W and it is the 15-22 !!. I wanted to get the best info on this rifle and was on other forums before I bought mine, so I decided to join here.

I just got mine on Saturday and the place I bout it from said he just got them in a month ago. It does not have the threaded barrel, it is a NY compliant model though:mad:

How do I tell if I have one that had many ejector problems in the beginning of production?

My serial starts with DTX4XXX.

Thanks for your replies and I hope to gain a lot of great info here on this sweet rifle.

I have the same serial number and I have at least 500 rounds through it and not one issue. Good luck with yours, it is a blast

DTX is unlikely to be the "old" rifle. Clean the chamber completely before shooting. The Out Of Battery (OOB) firings have to be from chamber obstructions, tight or dirty chambers, oversize bullets in the cartridges, or a combination of several.

You can help your cause by shooting clean, new ammo after you thoroughly clean the chamber. Remington Golden bullets are a couple 0.001" larger than most others.

Thanks guys, I thought I may have one of the first ones. I won't be able to get to the range for a few more weeks though, but I plant to shoot some cci and federal through it to start with.

How often should I clean it after firing the first rounds?

Just clean it after every outing, and you should be GTG. I mean, unlees you are going out to fire 2000 rounds, I would say, clean it after every 500 rounds to prevent gumming up the bolt. BUT, even if you go out and just fire 50-100 rounds...I would personally still clean it.

You'll know fairly soon.

Dirty weapons malfunction and some ammo brands will contribute to the malfunctions, as well.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding red stars, blue stars, serial number sequence, etc., but nothing hard and fast as far as I can tell. (the stars are beginning to bug me!) Some of these guns don't work well and some do work well. You'll just have to see for yourself.

S&W seems to have gotten better over the last couple of months w/ repair turnaround times in the area of 10 days, or less. They come back "updated to current specs" whatever that is--more speculation from the masses other than different colored springs. Again-whatever that means. They replaced all my magazines, too.

My 15-22 was worthy only of being a light weight jack handle after I bought it last December. After S&W quite jerking me around, it finally got back and has only misfired w/ Remington Gold and Winchester 555. It is so different that you can hear and feel the difference.

Federal bulk and CCI MiniMags are 100% since the rifle came back and I'm a little over 3,000 rounds. No jams w/ feeding nor any failure to eject. I'm not even taking the time to worry about correct magazine loading now.

Your new rifle might work fine or it might not.
