#2 Under acheving on tests.

Number 2 brought underachieving "future leaders" to mind.
Long ago at an unmonitored university test students of a couple fraternal groups were yelling answers to each other.

I knew that many of the "answers" were incorrect.

Later I had non-class related meeting with the instructor.
I did not mention the attempts to cheat by sharing answers.
I asked about the tests scores and how low they might be.

Instructor reported scores of 12 and 14.
That is on a 20 question test with 5 choice multiple choice.
Random choice of answers would yield a score of 20.

My explanation for the scores of 12 and 14 was AGGRESSIVE STUPIDITY. Instructor agreed with my assessment.

steelslaver: "One I got to know told me that the relationship between the working boat people in AK was far different than around Florida and the gulf. In Alaska they were respected and in Florida there was a lot of hate.

Thank you all."

In Alaska the commercial boat people call on the CG when they really need help.

In the Gulf Florida coast they call on the CG if they run out of fuel or for every other silly reason you can think of. Plus there is a lot of perceived "harassment" because of the boardings for suspected drugs.

A guy I knew in Ohio (1967) who went to court. The judge told him he could go to prison or enlist in the Marines. Shortly after arriving in VN he was busted, sent back to the World and given a Dishonorable. The USMC couldn't work their magic on that boy. Some would use the second chance for good, some did not.

Knew several who were given the same option by a Judge. They kept their noses clean while in the Corps, and hopefully did thereafter.

I was an extra who was to the ranks of guys from NY/NJ. The recruiter told me that it would be over a month wait to go to PI. I told him it was now or never. He got on the phone and fifteen minutes later I was going to PI in less than a week. It seems they were short on their quota in NY. When I got to boot camp at 0400, they put us in a barrack and told us to empty our pockets. The trash can was full of brass knuckles, knives, a chain and even a zip gun. What had I done?
At ITR I met a guy from New Jersey. He had scars all over his back. He said he got beat up with a bicycle chain when he was younger. Some folks had it really hard.
Speaking of three meals a day. Once at Chu Lai they got a monster shipment of roast beef. For over a week week we had fried roast beef in the morning, roast beef sandwiches at noon and roast beef with mashed (instant potatoes) for dinner. We got extra protein in the salad, worms. Oh the fun we had.
