Sgt. Mike Viet Nam Humor

The saying "In the rear with the gear" comes to mind. Though there weren't many places that could have been consider completely safe in RVN. Some just a bit safer than others......

Pretending for a moment we were safe. Get it while you can. 122s come in anytime.

Nowadays they give them hearing protection. All I ever got was what we could find to block the ears (usually the filter tips off of cigarettes).
The only guys to get "Mickey Mouse Ears" were the flight line crew i.e. plane captains. You could grab a pair sometimes when you had to work on a F4 that was turned up. Most of the times you just went without. Oh the fun we had.

We had warm Hams beer. There were many fights over that. When MLK was killed in April '68, there were two factions who wanted the E-club shack. Before it was all over a MP with a 50 on the back of a jeep took care of the situation. Oh the fun we had.

Those situations continued into the early 70's. Not fun at all!

Just think how long the beer sat in the hole of a cargo ship, sat at the pier, and transported by deuce and a half in the sweltering heat before it got to us. Oh yea, and the beer was in steel cans.. Regardless, a PBR was priceless.
All we got was Carlings. Can't say I developed a taste for it.
