Malaria killed thousands during the construction of the Panama canal but there are other things to worry about in a fire fight.

As for the Army mess hall in Tay Ninh, powdered eggs and powdered milk are not very good.

In our chow hall there were bowls of salt tablets and malaria pills on the tablets for us to take. Some did and some didn't.......I just got lucky I guess.

Our Company had formations where Everybody took the ****** malaria tablets.
Best " mess hall" I ate in was the Newport docks in Saigon. They fed the merchant seamen from all the freighters so it had to be good. Next was an Air Force club in Tan Son Nhut where you picked the steak you wanted. Also had a real sandwich bar with stateside bread!

We got extra protein with the salads, they had a lot of bugs and worms in it. Oh the fun we had.

One man's garbage is another's filet mignon.......... Saw this in RVN and a few other exotic areas of the world.

Gentlemen, You are on your own for about two weeks or so. My Supervisor (read Wife) has told me we are going to Pa. for that duration.

My uncle served in Europe during WWII. He was a tanker with Patton's 5th armored division. My uncle and his brother (my father) would go fishing together a lot. When my uncle wanted to shave he would rev up the outboard motor and get the hot water from the water cooling the motor. I guess old habits were hard to break.
