I've been trying to cut down on the invasive african redhead agama lizards that fairly recently moved onto my property. I've been using Super Calibri 22LR, mostly in my modestly scoped Remington 512-X. I have fair success with that setup but those rounds do lack consistancy. Super quiet but sometimes they don't make it out of the long barrel. But they are fun, just very limited range.

I also use my 17-4. It's also fun with those Super Calibri, although louder. Anyhow I eliminated the less cautious lizards and I'm just left with the real skittish ones that make it a lot harder to hit. So I switched to CCI rat shot in my 17-4 but the skittish survivors weren't letting me within normal rat shot range. I had one that already started moving off to hide. It was a solid 20yrds away but I could see it through a gap in the fallen loquat tree branches and a log near the front of my bush hog. I figured what the heck and took quick aim and popped off a shot. DRT!

Yeah, I know, total luck with rat shot at that distance. But I wouldn't have thought the rat shot would carry enough velocity to kill one of those foot long lizards at that distance or even hit one. Now I might be wasting more rat shot taking fantasy shots. I think there's only one of those lizerds left now out of the seven I've seen, for now.

Darned invasive species. We have too many of those in Florida now days. Too many gators too!

Well, that's the end of my big game hunting story.

I just use a pellet rifle. Works on anything iguana size and down.

There's a youtube channel called Iguana Sniper. Young lady does it professionally and she uses air rifles. Hers are a bit more expensive than a Red Ryder, but she's taking 40 yard shots on 2.5 foot long lizards. I'd say 95% are DRT.

I got a raccoon in the backyard. Pellet rifle would work except it's hard to tell where the fur ends and the body starts.

Waiting for a new purchase to come in... UMAREX M92 A1 CO2 BB pistol.
18rds...SA/DA/full auto

Once you get a .22 suppressor you will enter a whole new world of fun. I have a Spectre II on a Ruger 22/45 with red dot sight and I can also put it on my Ruger take-down 10-22. You better buy lots of bricks of CCI standard velocity ammo because everyone else loves to shoot it once you let them try it out, the ladies especially. Armadillos and critters too tough or far away for pellets are no match for a .22 RF.

I'm unsure why you guys are bothering with these lizards. Seems like all they do is eat bugs.

They eat valuable landscape plants. They **** all over. Their burrows undermine seawalls and sidewalks. And I'm sure they have an effect on the native species in the area. Like pythons, they don't belong there and should be removed.

Oh, and the falling out of the trees when it gets cold can be a little unhinging.

African redhead agama eat insects. And that includes butterflies. My wife plants for butterflsie not to provide a buffet for lizards. And the poo! Those things poo everywhere, a lot. It seems large for what's making the deposits. My grandson couldn't even play on the front porch due to all the poo. Nasty! I will say that they seem amazingly smart. I don't have the iguanas, yet, but I do have buffo frogs and pythons.

If only the gators would eat the lizards. Different habitats I’d guess

Iguanas prefer to be near water as it's their escape. Gators will eat them if the opportunity arises.

Agamas will also eat all the other lizards they can catch.

As I suspected the 20yrd rat shot quick kill was pure luck. I've wasted several more rat shot rounds without success. The remaining lizards are way to skittish to allow reasonable .22 rat shot ranges. I'm trying small fish traps now baited with crickets. They're supposed to work but it's too early to tell.
