Shield 40 Mishap

mp shield 40 problem

brought a mp 9 full size at Christmas time ...no problems. I like it so I brought a shield in 40 cal. in Feb. I ran about 70 rds of fed. 180 gr. fmj with no problems then 4 days later I ran the last 30 of the same 100 box and had 1 jam. started a new box of same and 2 failed out of battery and would not fire. I noticed the magazine has started to slip down and won't set completely tight as it did before. Called Smith and the line is always busy. emailed them and so far no answer. I joined this forum to see what others are saying.

So when I get my new 9mm Shield I have about 500 rounds of Winchester White Box 147gr flat nose ammo. Is it ok to shoot these round out of the shield or should I stick with 115gr ammo? I aquired this ammo through a friend from a pallet of FBI practice ammo. I got it for $100 for 500 rounds about 4yrs ago. I have shot a box or 2 through my FS9mm M&P with no issues. Also do you guys use Hornady Critical Defense in your shield? I use it also in my FS9 with no issues.

i've shot 147 gr winchester super x(approx. 300rds) and hst 147's(my carry ammo) with no problem.

ok guys from Arkansas... I had an excellent time in Little Rock.. between fixing and tuning several cars.. had some great food.. David's Burgers, Waffle house, (my favorite) some BBQ and catfish fairs... even a Mexican restaurant, it was just a great trip other than flying US Air... when they had a plane that wasn't broke..

The best part was being taken out for my 1st Trap shoot... at a new state run field... wow... looking for trap gun now, found a mint Beretta 301 in my gun vault from my father, forgot I had it. Now I know what it's for. This is the place we shot at....

yep, that was James K, one of his $30,000 Kragoffs... He had his other one there, called Goldie, #2 of 100 I think.. It had the release triggers.. I liked it. But I used a Beretta Black Eagle I think it was called.. I was browsing in a Ark magazine and he was listed in the Arkansas Trap Hall of Fame.. thought that was kool, such a nice man. The guys took me to one of the gun stores, kinda like a small Gander Mountain, was neat, had a lot of trap\skeet guns there..

What's a stock lock? Also, I really couldn't shoot his gun cause the stock was set up for him... every time I put it up to my shoulder.. it was so crooked.. he was going to let me shoot the Goldie..

I have no idea what a stock lock is. It would be cool to shoot a gun like that or even hold one.
If you look at the stock on that K-80 you'll notice that it has two parts. The back half slides and has a gas system inside. It helps reduce recoil.

I may be wrong about the name. There are at least two companies that make stocks like that. Even so, just the stock costs about $4K.

Phwew..... wow, that's crazy.. I checked out my go to LGS... he had a mod 32 Kragoff... 5500... I'll be happy with my Beretta 301..

Yeah, steer clear of the K-32. It is the precursor to the K-80. A good gun, but hasn't been made in years and has probably been well used.

Is the 301 and auto? If it is, it was not long lived. Quickly replaced by the 302 and then the 303. The 303 is considered one of the best semi-autos ever made.

Yes, it's an auto, It looks to be like new. I really don't think it's been shot, the gun is beautiful. I broke it down and cleaned it last night... It just has a bead on the front end with the threaded hole in the middle of the barrel. Have to look into that and maybe get a little something on the stock to raise my head a little.

That's a real classic you have there Jack. Like I said, Beretta didn't make them long. I don't remember all the details, but Beretta went from the 300 to the 303 in less than a year. So, it's likely that you have one of less than 500 made.

Unfortunately, it doesn't make the gun super valuable, but it is quite unique. The 300 series started in 1968 I believe and continued until 1991 or 1992 as the 303.

Anyway, we've jacked this thread enough. I wish you well on your Trap journey. Try Skeet and Sporting Clays as well.

turbo38gn, was it maybe Thompson Sporting Goods, the store that you went to in N. Little Rock? They have a lot of guns and loading supplies there. My cousin worked at the Remington Ammo Plant just outside of N. Little Rock. Was very interesting to hear how some of the ammo was made.

Friends, John

I'm not sure John but it had a lot of big name advertisers outside the building and they had a huge bright yellow gun vault outside in front.... I think it was Fort Thompson.. in Sherwood

Glad you had a good time, you know your pictures are all taken from someone who was laying on their side. Fooled you didn't they?
