Shield 40 Mishap

I was once advised to NEVER send a firearm that was involved in a catastrophic failure back to the manufacturer. The reason should be obvious. They are in sole possession of all the evidence.

There are independent laboratories that are very capable of examining the pieces involved and determining probable causes in an UNBIASED manner.

Here's hoping the OP receives a satisfactory resolution.

I'm thinking it may be time for us to flood S&W with calls on the OP's behalf. 6 weeks wait with a call that says, I don't know what's going on with your gun. Bad gun or bad ammo is irrelevant at this point. It's time for an answer. Yes, I know they won't talk to us about what is going on with someone else's warranty claim, but let them know he is talking about it with us and we are all dissatisfied in the lack of response by S&W. I can't think of how many times I have read about S&W's superior customer service and this just isn't acceptable.

Whenever you find out what happened let us know. Glad you are ok.
I have a shield .40 and have shot about 250 rounds of mixed ammo so far. Cheap and good stuff. With no issues.
I couldn't get this gun to stovepipe or jam in any way.
I hope s & w gets it figured out.

Ok I have been very patient with this situation about my gun. It has been 7 weeks today since I contacted you about this problem. On November 5th I was sent this.
Dear Customer, The gun is being transferred to the Customer Service Manger you will receive a call in the next ten days on the gun and the test results. If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.
Sincerely,
Michael DiFiore
It has been 3 weeks today since I was told I would receive the call within 10 days. On November 18th I get a call from a guy named Mark that acted like I had something to tell him and had no clue about my gun or what I was talking about. I think its time for some answers. If you could have someone call me and tell me what's going on I would greatly appreciate it.

I just sent them this. They will call tomorrow but who knows what they will tell me.

Any update on this? I'm in the market for a 9mm Shield and just curious how this works out.

No update yet. If they don't call me today I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow. I'm sure if you want a 9mm shield it will be fine. I'm just a lucky guy I guess.

wow - 2 months today and STILL no resolution from S & W???? That's some poor customer service - regardless of the situation - even WORSE considering what this specific case is all about!

Yea you know I have 5 Smith & Wesson guns its all I ever buy. I have never once had to deal with Smith before I never had any problems. This would be my first with this Shield and as far as I'm concerned it would be on the top of the list no matter what was in the shop if I was in charge. Very crappy service IMO!

Thanks. I agree this is bad service. Their silence is not a good thing given the attention they placed on this early in the issue.

I would have already blown up on some poor customer service phone rep.

Good luck.

I feel your pain. I'm dealing with another top name brand that has taken CS to an all new low as well haha

Well I got some crappy news. Was on hold for 17 minutes a rep came on and gave him all my info. He put me on hold for another 5 min came back and gave me test results. He said everything was within spec on the gun and they can offer me a replacement for $320 plus $14 shipping. I said no thanks. He said it had to be a over pressure round. He said they sent me a letter in the mail and should be getting it any day and I could send it to Federal and take it from there. What a damn Joke. I will never in my life buy another Smith Product. Weather it was the gun or not I've purchased so much of there guns they could just send me a new gun. I highly doubt there hurting for $$.

Wow that sucks man - sorry about the lousy news.

That really makes me reconsider the M & P .45 I've been thinking about buying. The Glock .45 may be my next gun instead of another S & W.

I feel bad that you didn't have a better ending.... but how can we slam S&W for a gun being destroyed by bad ammo. Shouldn't you be pissed off at the ammo manufacturer? Why is it S&W's fault... also, I expect that you will receive your gun back. In which case you go after the ammo man.....

Pretty sure Federal already tested the remaining ammo and told him it was all within spec.

Yea right get my gun back LMAO! There not gonna send me my gun. They could tell me anything how do I know? How do I know it was over pressured round? I will send the letter to Federal and see what happens. I done contacted them via email.

If I sound rude I apologize but I am really pissed right now. They could have said it was a over pressured round and were working with Federal right now to get you a replacement.
