How about the guy who sent his in for the safety notice/ recall whatever you want to call it? Told him 13 day turnaround and its been like 50 days or so now. They tell him same thing ever time he calls. Thats just nuts.

Well I got some good news today finally. I called David Velenze today and he told me there was a Shield 9mm allocated to my order number last thursday. He said I should get it any day now.

I would like to thank each and every one of you that had anything to do with this. I would also like to thank Jack for his time and effort. Just Thank You!! This forum has a bunch of great folks on it.

You're welcome, but are you just now getting your gun? It's been months!
Well I haven't got it yet but was told today it was allocated to my order number. They actually have one in hand. I've been told over and over and over that its been on back order. Weather thats the case or not I dunno. I know there all over in my area in gun stores. Said I would get it soon. Will be 9 months July 2nd since my incident happened.

I might :o be needing another 638......... I will pm or call you and "test" the waters? You know I carry that thing everywhere! My buddy wants one now.

Thank god that new 380BG isn't ambi, or I would be in trouble.

I'll be watching my CC.... nothing hit yet...

Alas, they have us over a barrel. I'm truly sorry you're still waiting for this gun when they have shipped thousands of them in this same time period.

It really speaks volumes about what they think about customers. I've heard many stories from satisfied customer service experiences and had a few good experiences myself. This is unacceptable.

Wow! Where to begin.

As a fairly new user of this forum, this thread caught my eye and I've spent 3 days worth of free time reading it from beginning to the still unsatisfied end. To read that the OP is still waiting for his replacement gun is beyond belief! The "deal" offered by S&W is far from fair and satisfactory as is, and then to make him wait like this is an affront to everything we learn about fair play and decency in the marketplace.

I bought a Shield 9mm just before I saw this thread and have the misfortune of it being one of the Shields that is virtually unrackable by any other than Sasquatch, himself! My right wrist is sore as the devil from the effort necessary to work the slide in order to take it down for its cleaning and lubing prior to firing it. I feel fairly sure that with enough use it will eventually become workable by mere men. The point is... a gun should never come to market in such condition that nearly superhuman effort is required to get it into use!

Reading other threads similar to this, it seems that Smith is acquiring a similar reputation to Glock with occurrences of KABOOMS too frequent for comfort. These threads along with what I consider to be a Quality Control issue with the rackability [sic] of current Shield production will weigh heavily in my next pistol selection.

Agree

I agree with Beamon on the tightness of the slide. I took it to our club after giving up trying to rack it. At 73, the old strength is wavering. A fellow club member, who I believe is a relative of King Kong, was able to rack it a few times for me. Analogous it seems to me, to the same mentality that secures products in plastic packs, that defy opening.
