Shield 40S&W: what problems can I expect?

You should not "expect" any problems. If you have any, send it back to S&W. I have not seen a thread in a while, but for a while, there were quite a few reports of magazines dropping out. There were threads that claimed that S&W had made a fix or two to prevent this. I hope you will post your test fire date, from the envelope with the empty casing included, and also post problems, if any, after shooting.

I have 1500 rounds through my Shield 40 (purchased in Feb 2013). No mag drop. With the exception of the white dot falling out of the front sight (very common issue), I have had no other issues at all.

You're screwed... big, big problems there.... finding enough ammo to feed that monster may be tough.....

The only problem I've found is that mine collects a lot of lint....from being carried everywhere I go. Enjoy it, and shoot often. A great gun!
I bought my .40 Shield right when everyone was saying they had mag drop issues. So just to be safe I did the mods that were posted on this forum (sorry don't remember where) and after 500 rds I have not had a single issue. Shoot it and if you have issues, I'm sure the great members on this forum will help you though it.

Another one with no problems with the mag. I purchased mine -- I think it was February. Perhaps the newer guns have been "fixed"?

Did your new 40 S&W Shield come with dimples in the magazine catch areas? Even if it did, I suspect that S&W has redesigned the magazine release lever to better address the problem of mag drops.

You've been offered $200 to take that piece of junk off your hands. Since you're a brother in arms & I'll assume a nice guy who shouldn't be bothered with that problem I'll give you $250, lol.
Definitely call S&W with the dropping mag problem if you're sure that you're not accidentally pushing the mag release. That's something you don't want happening in a do or die SD situation. Gives whole new meaning to the saying "make the first round count".

This has got to be the stiffest recoil I've ever delt with! But that's ok if all the engineering has been worked out...
