Well, I just opened my box with the new $276 .45 Shield. On the surface that sounds like a great deal. I have not shot it yet, but it is ready to go. One small prob. Charles Atlas could not get more than 3 rounds in either magazine.
Yes, I read the other folks complaining, but I said to me..... Man what wimps, can't load a dang magazine. Now I am that WIMP!!! I had to take a screw driver and depress the follower and capture it with smaller screwdriver and drop the rounds in. So to all of you I scolded in my mind....I apologize. I guess I'll try leaving them loaded but my goodness, this is crazy.

Take the mag apart to ensure it's assembled properly and the parts are not damaged.

I'e seen some threads recently about springs installed wrong, extra followers and what not. I always clean new mags inside and out.

8 months ago my new shield 45 mags about broke my thumb for about an hour.....yes I loaded three rounds and bigfoot could not have put in the 4th.....so what did I do......

loaded 3, unloaded 3, loaded 3, unloaded 3, then 4 for a few loads then 5, then 6 and 7 on the 7rounders. two about 2 hours watching tv but they did loosen up nicely.....helps to back slap the mags while loading until they are broken in and they will break in.

be patient and just work the mags..one additional round at the time.....it will all work out.

I shot mine for first time this weekend, had a minor issues losing the mags, even with the uplula the mag follower was getting like stuck either on both magazines. They took a full load not issues loading them by hand, might take them apart for an inspection later.

I've been loading in 5 rounds at at a time in my mags, each time it gets easier:) At first I was shocked just how much effort it took to put in two! LOL
The funny thing is I really enjoy shooting this gun and I am a revolver guy, maybe I am just impressed with how accurate I shoot it and how it does so much for so little in $$.
Just keep shooting it and don't feel obligated to pack the mags to full capacity at first

My new 45 PC loaded up full with no issues....maybe the springs were hand tuned at the factory?:-)

I disassembled mine, cleaned and lubed the inside. I found some burs on the follower and sanded all the edges smooth. Glides like butter. Leave them loaded full for a week and the springs lighten up nice.

When you load those .45 Shield mags, especially at first but always after as well, make absolutely certain that the bullets are loaded completely to the rear of the mag. If something hangs up, smack the back of the mag on the heel of your other hand and move all the rounds inside to the rear. I bet you will hear them "click" as you do this!

The .45 mag has less internal room for the rounds than the 9MM/40 mags since this mag has to fit in the same size grip frame as those two. The tip of the bullets will bind if they touch the front wall of the mag. At first, it's a good idea to smack the mag after every couple rounds till things begin to ease up with the mag spring.

It is also good policy to fully load each new mag, then put it on the shelf for a day or two and let it sit. The mag spring will begin to take its initial set and things will get better quickly. While you are doing that, lock the slide back on the gun and let it sit in that position while the mags sit loaded. Things will work better much more quickly!

And buy yourself a Maglula loader for these mags. You will be glad you did, even after the mags get broken in. Your thumb and fingers will thank you too!!!

No offense guys, I'm no Charles Atlas, I'm 69 years old and I had no problem loading my Shield 45 mags when they were new (3 or 4 weeks ago), except for the last round. The mags are tight, front to back, so I do find I have to slap them against my palm to make sure all the rounds are fully seated, but they're not near as bad as you guys are implying.

Maybe there is something wrong with you mags, but I doubt it, and by the way, taking them apart is easy....putting them back together is not. Buy a mag loader....Uplula is the best and works on lots of mags, not just the Shields.
