Shield 45 questions

It makes no sense that your M23 is worth less because it was a blue label purchase. I would find a new shop as it sounds like they are trying to take advantage of you.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that's how it works around here too. If the gun cost $80 less when purchased new, it's worth $80 less when purchased used. Why should the seller be entitled to make an extra $80 profit? Now whether it makes sense, or not, I don't know. I'm only saying that's how it works around here too. GARY

While I haven't shot them side by side, I would say to me the felt recoil of the Shield 45 and my G27 are comparable. Both of those are loaded with Hornady Critical Defense. I am in no way saying that it the best, but it is what our department issues.

+P in the Shield

"I am using 45 ACP - +P 220 Grain FlexLock JHP - Hornady Critical Duty with a muzzle velocity of 934 fps."

Is the Shield in .45acp rated for +P ammo ? If I recall correctly the 9mm is not. Or am I missing something.

Recoil is subjective. Some will hate it others won't notice it. Also, some guns are better at absorbing recoil then others.

I've seen a few used Shield 45s for sale around $299.

Expect to get around $250 - $350 for your Glock depending on extras. Around here used G23/22 sell for $350, which means the owner got less

If I can find one for $299 I'll trade my Taurus in on it and put the rest on my credit card

Well looks like I'll be waiting a while, cheapest I found near me was $500 o.t.d. so I guess I'll just save my money and keep my Glock and get one in a few months

I generally read posts instead of posting because 99.9% questions are answered, but I have to reply. Picked up a 45 on black friday, I have the shield 9 and 40 and they are great but both are about the same in trigger control etc. The 45 has a great trigger and manageable recoil, I was surprised at how nice it fires, then again reading folks reviews all say the same.
I would trade in my first born for this shield:)

"they said its not worth as much because I purchased it under the blue label deal"

You need to find a new gun shop.
Next closest one is about 45 or 50 miles. I have a old security partner that has his ffl that I deal with if I order one off line but if I have to trade one theres not much I can do.

Use this forum to sell your gun. Ya never know some member might want it. Beats the heck outta trading it to LGS for peanuts. Snap a pic and list it. Won't cost you a cent.

45 shield

I have the shield in 9 and 45 paid $405 out the door at Cabela's for the 45. Keep your other hardware and save your money for the Shield 45 it's not a bad thing to have different cals of hardware.

I have the Gen 4 G 23 & just bought the Shield 45.
I love them both, the 45 almost feels like less recoil than the 23.
But.. I would never sell either.
23 is house gun & S&W when I go outside.
Save your $$, keep the 23 & buy the shield 45 asap!

I agree. Shield 45 offers a nice caliber and urban carry package -- the Glock isn't much bigger and doubles the capacity less/same weight less ~50 grains per trigger pull. You'll appreciate the step up in capacity when in a higher threat environment.

Buy the Shield--keep the Glock.

If I go somewhere that there is anyone other than family I carry a primary (either glock 23 or my 1911 both with 2 spare mags) and a backup (glock 23, 1911, .38 special, taurus pt140 g2, or my titan .25 all have at least 1 spare mag except the titan I only have 1 mag for it.)

While you're making up your mind about what to do with your Glock, go ahead and buy the Shield 45. Preppers has them for $379.99 if you act fast.

If I had the cash I would but I'm a bit short

If you have a G23 blue label I assume you would qualify for Smith &Wessons equivalent LEO/Military purchase program. I picked up my Shield .45 for $340.00
If possible I would try to keep your G23. It's a jack of all trades with its conversion capabilities.

So, I don't get this. Does the gun have an actual blue label on it? I'm pretty ignorant of this program so I don't know. Wondering how the store would even know. I Googled it and it appears that it is on the box. I guess if that's the plastic case then the store would know the origin of the pistol. But regardless, it's the same pistol just sold at a discount to LEOs so its value to others is the same. I don't think what you paid for something has any affect at all on what you sell it for. Sure, someone might use that knowledge to try to bring you down a bit more but I don't think they should just subtract $75-100 from the price right out of the gate. I got a great deal on the last boat I bought from another state and could have easily turned around and sold it for $1-2k more as soon as I got home. No way I would have priced it for less than it was worth in my areas just because I paid less for it.

If you retired from the job, you are still entitled to the blue label program at Glock, but not S&W, to my knowledge.
