Shield 9 slide jammed back

Patton should be well worth the wait. Just got back from the range and put 100 rounds through it. Performed flawlessly :D

I recently put 150 more rounds through mine without issue. I don't know what has changed, but it went from jamming every 5 rounds or so to working fine. Not sure if i should send it in our not.

Put another 350 through it without cleaning. If you have no more trouble, call it good.

I received my pistol back from S&W today. Paperwork indicated they replaced the barrel on mine as well. Hopefully I can go the range this weekend to try it out. If not, I may have to wait until the following weekend.

Patton that is awesome. Hopefully the new barrel fixes your issue as well. I plan on hitting the range this weekend to put more ammo through it.

Dackjammit glad yours is working properly and sounds like you got the kinks worked out.

Mclem, appearently the new barrel was the fix. I fired off a box of Perfecta 115gr FMJ, and a box of Win T&D 147gr FMJ, without a single issue. I might even say the grouping appeared to be just a little tighter also. One thing for certain is the trigger is completely broken in now and has really nice smooth, crisp release. I see no need what-so-ever to upgrade the trigger. Really liking this pistol. :) I have to commend S&W for the professional, no hassle repair.

Why? Because you read about 5 having a problem on the internet? No, I wouldn't worry. S&W has made over a million of the little buggers. If you took all the problems and put them together, they would add up to less than .01% so, nothing to worry about.

And if you do have an issue, S&W will fix it for free and their turn around is quick.

Don't think Sigs, Taurus, Ruger, Kimber, do-da, do-da don't have their issues, as well. Again, a MINUTE number compared to the number sold. When you get this worked out you will love it.

I purchased the Shield PC 9mm two weeks ago. I took it to the range this past Monday and it happened to me too. Jammed backed on the second magazine of the day, with several rounds remaining. I was shooting PMC Bronze 115 FMJ. It happened again about 40 rounds in. I shot a total of 100 rounds and it only happened those two times. I'm calling S&W Monday to get this resolved. Hopefully, a new barrel will be the answer. Thanks guys for the info.

My new Shield 9 has 051116 for the date on the box. Took it out yesterday for the first time and ran 150 rounds thru it without a single malfunction. Three brands of ammo were Federal FMJ, Winchester White Box FMJ, and Speer Gold Dot GDHP, all 115 gr.

It's a pretty good little shooter.

My new S&W shield performance center did this. I can remove the mag and pull back on the slide and slide will lock back without slide stop engaged. I think it is a rsa issue not a barrel issue. As when I took my gun apart to clean factory oil off it before shooting recoil spring was try to over ride the guide rod end. S&W has some terrible quality control on their rsa assemblies. Not sure who makes them for s&w but they aren't the best machined guide rods or springs.

Got mine yesterday and the same problem as you guys. Happened after three shots and it locked all the way back past the slide lock. Had the range guy take a look and he found a piece of plastic inside the striker area. Turns out it came from the lower right back of the gun/slide area. However, this didn't fix the lock-back problem, as it happened three more times in the next 50 rounds. Guess I'll be contacting S&W on Tuesday for an RMA as well.

I called them before xmas and they put me on the list mailing list when they get them back into stock. They had no idea when that would be in stock. I really don't know why they don't make their own. Never had a manufacture tell me they were sold out when I've asked to order a rsa. Guess that's their one negative.

Jams

You've all been very helpful and informing. Mine did this yesterday after I took it out shooting.

Happened to mine 8-10 times during the first 100 rounds. Took it back to the LGS where I bought it (it was only 2 days old) and it looks like they RMAd the RSA. Picked it up a couple days ago, put over 250 rounds through it and had another half-dozen or more occurrences. I'll try another couple hundred rounds today... and then I'll call S&W.

Why? You've already put over 350 rounds through it and had lots of failures. What will more rounds tell you that the previous rounds didn't?

Just call S&W and get it fixed. Further shooting will only cost you more money and frustration.
