So... these are still in fact being produced, right?

I talked to one of my local gun stores about putting my name on the list. They said they would, but suggested I not. Indicated they already had 6 people in line, and that they have not received one of these pistols in around 8 MONTHS!

I get that the "gun economy" is a bit out of whack right now... but if the problem was just demand exceeding supply, I would still expect that there be SOME supply - not zero.

To literally have received 0 in 8 months seems to suggest that production itself has stopped?

Just wondering if anyone else might have heard anything.

Thanks

They are still being made in 3 shifts a day at the factory. The problem is S&W sends them to the Distributors and its the Distributors that determine which dealer gets them. There have been dealers that have gotten 40 at once and others that get none. They are out there and still in short supply. Try talking to other dealers. I know my Favorite LGS gets one or two every couple of weeks. Watch here. Any time someone finds a LGS with a couple they post it here. They are gone in seconds but its worth a shot. A friend of mine waited 3 months for his. I waited 4 days. Its just luck and where you buy it from. Your best bet is to get on as many lists as possible.

Hang in there. It's worth the wait.

Michael

Thanks for the reply. I have no problems waiting (and I expect to), but when they told me they hadn't had any in so long, that seemed to set off alarm bells.

I thought about still putting my name down, but they wanted a 20% deposit on it... I have no idea if that is average or not, but I don't see myself putting on more than 1-2 lists if that is the case!

During times like this its hard to find anything in stock. And trying to find real popular items are even harder to find right now.

Good thing is, there is still plenty of beer left on the beer isles thank goodness. Oh and its still regular price too.

lucky to find a .40

It's all luck and perseverance....I have physically held 3 different ones since they have been introduced and finally had to dough 2 weeks ago. been to gun shows, LGS and the big box stores....

got my .40 last week by walking in a LGS and Fed-ex delivered 20 minutes prior to me walking in there....

hang in there...and if you find a .40 grab it...well worth it and I've heard you can drop a 9MM barrel in it through a thread in here....

If you want one, put your name on as many lists that you can. I don't think you'd complain if you got more than one call that one was available. I do disagree with putting down a deposit. They can certainly ask for one, but if you'd walked in there unsolicited clearly demonstrating you want to do business with them, I just don't agree with it. I personally put my name on Cabela's list around Thanksgiving and was able to take delivery of mine (9mm) about a month ago.

And as others have said, they are out there...patience grasshopper.

Seek and ye shall find. I am in Massachusetts, which is limited to a fraction of the overall production. Within a week of looking, I found two, one at MSRP and one at a small premium. If I can find them here, you guys can find them in the free states. ;)

My LGS told me that S&W has told dealers that they are to take deposits to be on the list. Mine was 20%. So I guess that's the average. I don't know if it's true or not. I paid mine off in full. Shot me to the top of the list.

Yeah, the deposit definitely annoyed me. I mean, the purpose of the deposit should be to protect the store in case I had them order some obscure gun that might not turn around and sell.

But this... if they actually got enough in and I backed out leaving them with an extra, how long do you think it would actually sit in their display? An hour or two tops I figure... There isn't risk to them to put my name on the list. Oh well...

Too bad - it was a decent price ($410).

I was on my LGS waiting list and they did not charge me 20%. I was on it for 3 weeks but a Gander Mountain that has been reconfigured to be a gun only store opened about an hour away and they said they had a minimum of 50 in stock. I drove over last Sat. and bought one. The next day my LGS called and said they had one for me. Told them to sell it to the next guy. I went Mon. and they were selling one in the store. The thing that irked me with the LGS is they sold 25 on gun broker in one week while I was on their waiting list.

I waited on a list for about 3 weeks for my 9mm shield. When I got on the list the LGS said they had no lead time estimate. But then they got some in. But only enough to fulfill waiting list orders. This was last month.

Maybe I'll get lucky and Academy will come up with one. Talked to the guy there today, he said they had 4 .40 Shields come in last week...

They have prices on both the 9mm and .40 set at $399

I put $100 down on a 9mm Shield at a LGS, told the wait was about 3-4 months, with 12-15 people in front of me. Every phone call I get my heart drops.

Deposit on Shields

I dont believe S&W told dealers the are to ask for a deposit! I can understand why LGS would ask for a deposit, at the LGS where I got my 9MM SHIELD I waited until the first week in Janurary to put my name on the waiting list I was told there were 27 names ahead of me, I said I am in no hurry he called the last week of Jan. and had gotten 6-9MMs in and he spent the time to call all 27 people on the list. The people who he talked to kept asking him to wait for 2 to 3 weeks so the could pay for them or said they cant get it within afew days. So he went to the next person in line,Now the people on the list are mad at him.

What I found that helped me out is to "like" as many LGS as well as bigger name Internet gun shops as well. They usually will post when they come in

I got my 40 Shield and my 9mm Shield just by seeing LGS posting they had them in stock

Persevere and be ready to go and buy when you see them posted. Never hesitate

I think once the xDs in 9 is released that the high demand for the Shield may relax a bit

Your local dealer flat out lied to you. They get their inventory direct from wholesalers, not S&W.

Just did the paperwork today on a 40 Shield from Cabela's here in WI. Had been on their waiting list for about 60 days. Didn't have to put money down. Paid full MSRP but that feels like a deal with what I have seen them selling on Gun Broker for. Now I just need to wait 48 hours....

Your LGS is full of horsehockey. The reason they don't get any "S&W weapons" is because THEY don't sell enough of them. The distributer sends them where they are being sold and moving the most. NO WAY would I put anything down and sit on a list. I tell the LGS that I am looking for "X" and they call me if and when they get "X". Nothing down,no list to sit on. I also frequent these LGS on a regular basis and spend a fair amount at each. That helps. I've had my 9 Shield since last April when they first came out. They were already sold out when I picked mine up that night.:D
