I read the XDS 9mm has been released.

I am pleased with my Shield but my wife is left handed and the XDS 9mm has the grip safety and ambidextrous magazine release which is going to be more conducive to a south paw.

I would be interested in comparison of the trigger, recoil and overall impression if anyone has range time with both weapons in 9mm.

Again I love my Shield but I am looking for an option for my left handed wife.

Thanks,

Russ

I heard the XDS 9 won't be out til the end of the year. Where can you buy one at or is it an order type of deal? A buddy of mine has one on order but he was told it won't be until the end of the year.

Good luck. I'm gonna fan boy it alittle here, but part of the reason we buy S&W is the customer service. When they announced the Shield it was in stores that day with aftermarket accessories. You cant find a xds9 anywhere ahd probably won't for a while. I hate when a company announces a product and makes you wait. I can't wait to check one out myself.

While this was true with the Shield, it was a once in a lifetime event. It is definitely not the norm. Besides what good was that? Shields being sold for hundred's over list, & 6 months waiting to get one. While many mfrs have a lead time between announcement, & product availability, at least they can keep up with demand, which keeps prices below MSRP. I know which scenario I'd prefer. GARY

I find the criticism of the availability of the Shield sort of humorous. Those of you who feel sat upon should have been around to try to get one of the really desirable S&W revolvers during the Vietnam War when a Model 19, 29, or 60, to name three, often had wait times of a year or more.

Sounds like the xDs in 9 should be in stores within the next month. I will get one as soon as I can. Love the trigger and feel of my xDs in 45. I think they will have an absolute winner on their hands. Go to YouTube and look for the review Hickok45 did for it

What do you mean? You can find shields for msrp, some times under or very close to msrp all the time. You just have to look. I've personally bought three. First one $475 delivered. Second $412 delivered for my father in law and just picked up another for my wife $475 delivered. Helped two buddies find theirs also both at msrp. Only people who are too lazy to look buy at "hundreds " over msrp or who were dumb enough to pre pay at their local gun shop for one. Of course your going to wait for it they already have your money. S&W hit it out the park with the Shield!

I am a lefty and had no problem with the Shield. I do not use the safely and you do not have to. Don't think I would use it if I was right handed. Just another thing to mess with.

You nailed it. On all that you said. I thought I was the only one with Shield fever and bought 3 never over msrp.

I'm one of those people who couldn't wait, so I paid $100 over msrp. But, it was worth every penny!!!!

I hunted around for a Shield but no luck since they were released. I've pretty much given up on them and am now going to set my sights on a Walther pps 9mm. Never was a big XD fan so I'll probably pass on those.

If you have a Cabela's in Florida I would put your name on the waiting list.

I got my Shield from Cabela's and the customer service at the Utah store was tops.

I paid msrp but Cabela's traded out my garbage Beretta Nano for a full credit ($429) I purchased from the same store even after 1, 300 rounds and 4 months later.

Cabela's has my future gun business. Yes there is a price for customer service and it is worth paying msrp for that service.

I was looking for the Shield in a 9. (First choice). But by the time I had enough money saved up the XDS (Second choice) was available at my LGS. So I purchased it. What a great gun. The XDS was a great choice.
Now I'm saving up still for a Shield 9. But if the XDS 9 becomes available before I can find a Shield. Guess what? I'll buy the XDS 9. Hey if the Shield is available I purchase it first. But give me a break. How long do I have to wait for a Shield 9? In the mean time my XDS 45 ROCKS!

Yep the Shield is still a rare species to find at the LGS even though its no longer a "new cool" weapon. So there must be a reason the gun is still so sought after. And of course the XDS is pretty readily available. You could stop by a few LGS and one of them usually has one or two hanging out.

When the XDS starts selling as fast as the Shield and becomes as hard to find as the Shield for as long as the Shield has. THEN, i'll believe that just "maybe" Springfield is onto a nice weapon. But in the mean time, comparing a Springfield to Smith is like comparing a Taurus to a Colt.

My little brother some time back sold his XDS for $200 more than he bought it for. A week later I found him a Shield .40 in which he added another $250 or so to the original $200 extra he got off the sell of his XDS. Needless to say he thought that extra $250 he spent out of his pocket for his Shield .40 was the best money he ever spent.

No Cabela's that I've seen. I was in a Shoot Straight the other day and asked about a Shield 9mm, he said they get them from time to time. When I asked about being put on a waiting list he said they don't do that.

My XDS 45 is a very good pistol. Im sure the 9 will be just as good. love the look, the agressive checkering for grip and shoots well.
I love all 7 of my M&Ps but the shield does not give me a thrill up my leg.. bought the nano instead , lighter and shoots nice.
