Shield barrel imperfections - is this normal?

My barrel, I just looked, is not so clean as the "better" picture here and looks similar to the OP's picture. But I am getting better grouping now compared to first time at the range.

My first time shooting Shield 9mm sent rounds very low and left... Took some time to change trigger control/hold specific to the shield to get decent grouping at the POA.... I don't have that problem on other guns I've been shooting...

Here's a pic of my new shield barrel.

It might be the lighting of #2 and #3 photos, but does it look like the rifling of the barrel is off colored on that one land at the 12/1 o'clock position? could it be a bad rifling job?

something going on there other than just the crown if you the pistol isn't hitting paper at 7 yards. At that range, even a smoothbore barrel would keep the shots on paper. Maybe not a tight group but at 21 feet just pointing the pistol at the paper and pulling the trigger should put them somewhere on the paper.

If it's just a bad group, then a crummy crown may be the problem, but if it is as you said and not able to keep them all on paper, there's a deeper problem going on than what is visible in the pictures.

Don't feel bad. Back in the 1980's I bought a new Colt Combat Commander. Took it out to the farm with a gallon jug to shoot at. Everything within a acre got hit with a bullet at some point, but not the jug. Sold the gun the next day. Best thing to do with your mistakes is to rid yourself of them immediately (even at a loss). I don't own a Shield even after looking at dozens of them over the past two years, and I don't want one.

I got lucky. I am getting TIGHT groups with this Shield. Rifling was done very well and crown is great. (its done as it should be with the rifling being shielded by the crown itself).

4-5" groups at 50-70yds for a stock SHIELD 9mm isn't to bad for me. (I'm used to the BG380 trigger)

Wow, 4-5" groups out to 70 yards with a Shield. Competitive shooting is calling your name for sure! I recently tried longer distances with my 9mm Shield than my typical 15 yard practice and discovered I hit the 12" gong at 30 but hardly ever at 35 yards. Was happy with the performance at 30 yards. Funny what 5 yards will do to you :-) 1,024 rounds through her and still happy with the Shield.

Nah, 4-5" groups at that distance isn't really that great. Just gotta know where your gun shoots and be good with it. I couldn't do it with a second Shield I promise you that.
