They are very popular and selling well. I am in the NW and Cabelas always seems to be out of stock. I was just in Nebraska and a LGS had new ones for $450.00 which was pretty decent. Good luck. Brian

Fastest selling S&W autos hands down.

Crazy how these and the xds are so hard to come by in other states from what i see. They are at every lgs I visit and I go often, South Florida.

I live in Los Angeles, why can't I find a M&P Shield 40 or 9 mm. Or should I just go for the M&P 40 or 9mm. Help me out please.

I would haunt the online sites like Bud's. That's where I got mine a couple of months ago. I think you can still buy them even if you're in Cali, right? If you get tired of waiting, a 40C is a nice carry gun. I bought one of them & then later when the Shield 40 was available i picked it up. Good Luck & welcome to the Forum!

You won't find any Shields in California unless it's in a gun store for law enforcement officers. Shields available in other states are not on the CA DOJ approved roster. So you can only get one through private party transfer, using the Single Shot Exemption or as a LEO. The CA compliant Shields (pictured on the S&W website and listed on the CA DOJ approved handgun roster) ....I believe will be available later on this year or early next year. From what I understand, the CA compliant Shields have the loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect.

I agree...but if Glock ever comes out with a single stack compact 9 or 40 it will probably out sell the Shield...glock missed the boat on this one.:D

Glock does make a single stack 45 Glock Model 36. I can see a 40 or 9mm being a heck of alot smaller

Gunbroker an option ??

I got tired of Driving and calling to the LGS and got one on GB for cheaper than local.

I've bought three off Bud's Police sight. They come up every so often.

But if you get a compact I'm sure you'll love it. It's a bit wider, but the reliability is better and it holds more ammo. The compact costs a bit more....

How is the "reliability" better??
