I've owned a Shield since they where first out. I absolutely love it and carry it everyday. I have FINALLY convinced my wife to carry in her vehicle. It is 100% legal in Utah to carry in your car without a permit. She will be using a small safe under the seat. I'd prefer her to have easier access but this is what she's comfortable with having 3 small children.

She likes my Shield and it fit her small hands really well, my only concern is the recoil. For me it's not an issue at all.

Any ladies out there own a Shield? How's the recoil for you? My wife is petite 5'3 just over 100 lbs. Thanks!

My wife is 5'4" and shoots and carries a full size FNP 9 on her hip.
You said your concern was the recoil. What does she think of it. She should shoot it and decide on what is best for her.

My ole ladies concern was small bullets dont leave big enough holes. She carries her Kimber Ultra II in 45acp around with her on a daily basis.

IMO, recoil shouldnt be your wifes concern. Her concern should be to make sure her first shot hits its mark.

Let her shoot your Shield and then go from there. If yours is a .40 put the 9mm barrel in it and give it a whirl.

My wife didn't even like the feel of the Shield compared to her M&P 9C, she said the extra weight is worth the comfort and control during shooting...guess I can't argue with her, b/c control is all I'm concerned about if she needs to use it.

Thanks for the input. I was also thinking of a Ruger SR9c or an M&P9c. I need to get her out to the range to try out my Shield 9mm.

Lots of ladies shoot and carry J-frame .38's and those have more recoil than a Shield. I think there's a good chance she'd do well with the Shield, but as others have said, let her shoot it and decide.

Hey neighbor....My girlfriend carries my 9 shield. She started with a Barretta PX4 full size (comfortable to hold and shoot), went to a Kahr CW9, very easy to conceal, comfortable to hold but to long of a trigger.

Now the Shield9 which she likes shooting the best. Easy to conceal and easy to hold and easier to shoot.

My Wife is 5'4" and has been carrying for a few Years now.
She's gone through an XD9 Service, SR9c and now loves her G26.
She tried my old PF-9 (due to size) and hated both the trigger and the recoil. She also rented a couple M&Ps and also hated the trigger (compared to the factory SR9c and G26)

Having written all that, she's shot my Shield and while she doesn't like it enough to ditch her G26, she does shoot it very well, has no problem with its recoil and likes the Shield's trigger better than the larger M&Ps.

A gun, locked in a small safe, under your seat is a great way to keep children from getting at it. It will also be near impossible to get to when needed. I would consider looking at other non lethal options be available for immediate use. One good one. PepperBlaster II
BTW. Let her pick a gun also and do lock it up. She can learn to car carry when the kids are not along.

I own a Shield .40. I had the 9 too but like the .40 so much better that I sold it to a friend. I'm 5'2", around 135 and have absolutely no problems handling the Shield. I carry it every day. My other carry gun is the XDS. Let your wife fire it and see what she thinks.

My wife and 18 year old daughter both shot my 9mm Shield the other day at a range session. My wife normally CCWs a GLOCK 26, so we took her G26, my Shield, and several of my J-frame snubbies.

First, the snubbies have never been a favorite with these two. The recoil is too snappy, the triggers are too heavy, and they are generally hard to shoot accurately. Now to the autos...

Although they both thought the Shield was "OK", they prefer the wife's G26 over the Shield for several reasons. The felt recoil is less with the GLOCK, the G26 slide is easier for them to grasp and rack, and they like the feel of the thicker G26 grip over the Shield's thin grip profile.

They didn't dislike the Shield, but when doing a side-by-side comparision, the G26 won. I guess I get to keep the Shield...
