I am fairly new to this forum, but it is pretty obvious that the Shield needs a forum of its own.
Anybody agree?
By the way, I don't own one. I have a new M&P 9 SKU#109301.

No, I for one do not agree. Giving the Shield its own forum is sort of like giving the 2 1/2 inch Combat Magnum its own forum.

The Shield is a single stack M&P and in my opinion it is properly in the M&P forum.

Granted, the Shield has a thumb safety and does not have replaceable backstraps, but it is still an M&P. It looks like one, handles like one and disassembles like one.

Just because it presently gets more posts than other M&Ps does not mean it needs its own forum. That may settle down, but even if it does not, I still think there is more commonality than difference.

The number of posts concerning the Shield would decrease by 90% if people would just learn to use the search function. There's currently nine threads asking questions about holsters.

There's a dozen asking if the Shield should have it's own forum also! :p

There are 10 threads on the first page alone asking about holsters for the shield. That tells me that people not only don't use the search function, but that they don't even look at the titles of other threads.

No, I don't think the shield needs its own forum, but this is a little ridiculous.

NO NO NO I do not agree. If you don't like the Shield Threads, just ignore them and look for the ones you want. What you are trying to do is segregate the models. Do we need one for the 45? How about one for the Compacts only? Or one for the Compact 9's?

They are all basically the same guns, including the Shield, just smaller. All are designed similar, with similar internal workings. A thread for one problem on one model may solve the problem or question for another model. No need to check several different Forums to get an answer available in one Forum.

There is no doubt that there are too many repetitive threads, but that is human nature. It is easier to start a new thread, than to spend time to search for an answer for their question. But that is not always the case. When you see a thread that has been "dead" for many months, start showing up again. People search and find old threads, and make a post to that thread, not realizing it is a very old thread.

It seems every week or two someone keeps trying to put the little brother all by himself. He's lonely and likes being with his big brothers.

There are also quite a few threads asking if the Shield should have its own Sub-Forum.

Regardless of the topic, It seems like people think if a Subject isn't seen on page 1, it must not exist... Like once it slips of page 1, it magically gets erased.

I mentioned page one because if there are 10 on page one, just imagine how many more there are if you look beyond page one.

People simply don't read. The see the
newthread.gif
button, know they have a question and just start a new thread because it's easier.

My son does the same thing all the time. "Dad, how do you spell xxx?" "Look it up in the dictionary." says I. Then he complains about that because it's easier for me to tell him than for him to look it up. But we all know that if he looks it up himself, he'll actually learn more.

The same applies with these type of posts. If you put some effort into your search before asking the question, 9 times out of 10 you'll find the answer. And, if you don't find the specific answer, you'll be more prepared to ask the right question that will lead to a more specific result.

For example: asking, "What's the best xxx for my gun?" This question reeks of laziness. Obviously the originator didn't do any research. Now, if they ask, "I saw brand x and wondered if you have experience with it?" that is a completely different scenario.

Sorry, that was over the top.

Even with all that ranting I just did, I don't think a sub forum for the Shield is the right way to go. Actually, there is a lot of info that crosses between the calibers and sizes. So, we will all learn more with just an M&P forum.

The AR forums have the M&P AR-15,M&P AR-10, and the M&P 15-22. They're all M&P's too but there are three different forums.

Those are 3 different caliber Sporting Rifles, with all the respective models in each forum. So in the sprit of your theory, each caliber handgun would need it's own forum. 22,380,9,40,45. In essence, the 9mm & 40 would be hounded by the Shield "craze" and the 22 would have it's normal following,380 would almost be nonexistent and the 45 would bring up a slow rear. Then there's all the different people with the "c" models to contend with.... For information, the search function is still the best method. It's just a matter of getting people (old and new) to use it. :D
