Shield front site

Just got back from the second time out with my Shield 40. I put over 150 rounds through today and am pretty pleased with my performance as this is my first 40cal handgun. I have noticed it shoots slightly to the right. Horizontal groupings are pretty good but verticle always trended right. I think I need to move the front sight slightly to the right (to move the groupings to the left)...correct? Also, what is needed to move the front sight? No doubt, it is firmly in place now and I don't want to damage it.

They don't need to be moved. You just need more time with the gun.

Though short in his comment, the post above may be right. I shot mine to the left the first few times out. After about 600 rounds I am now right on without moving the sight. I did the same with my full size 9mm.

Brian, are you a left handed shooter?


If you move the sights, remember FORS in regards to where the bullet will impact.
Front Opposite
Rear Same

So if you want to move the POI to the left, either move the front sight right or the rear sight left.

Another thing to try is shoot it with your opposite hand and see if the impact is still to the right.

My front sight is off out of the box. I didn't notice it at the store when I picked it up. The edge of the front sight is all the way to the left of the notched space for the sight. I am taking it back to the store when I get back to town and get them to center it on the slide.

Thanks much for the replies. I am a left-handed shooter but am right-eyed dominate while shooting, so I sight with my right eye for handguns.

Contrast that...I shoot my M&P 15-22 using a small power scope and my left eye @ 50 yards and am dead on.

Why is this so complicated?

Move your trigger finger in a little more. I bet you are using the tip of you finger to pull the trigger, which is causing the push to the right.

Shooting a rifle is different than shooting a handgun.

I wouldn't touch the sights just yet, unless the sight is visually off to the left.
