I have owned a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano and after another flawless range trip today with my Shield I am thinking every other handgun is competing for the silver.

I welcome anyone on this forum,Ruger, Beretta, Springfield, Sig, Glock, Kahr, Kimber, etc forums to post an objective reason why the Shield should not receive "Gun of the Year" honors.

The nice thing about the Shield is the day they were announced, every store had 2 to sell. Not like other guns that were announced & maybe 6 months later, they started to become available. Kudo's to S&W for that. GARY N4KVE

Me either, my only concern is for the .40 cal guys that are having the mag drop issue. Overall though is has been a winner on a lot of fronts. By all means it should, time will tell.

'Cause my white dot fell out??

Other than S&W selecting a poor vender for sights, mine has been adequate and meets the niche. The trigger is a little heavier than I am used to, but useable. So far for me, the gun has functioned fine.

Edmo:

You bring up a good point.

I wish S&W offered a few choices in sights for the Shield standard.

The rear stock sight is not made for pocket conceal and in my case I ended up spending installed another $120 for some night sights that would not catch on my pocket and the stock sights sit and collect dust..

I would much rather spend alttle more up front and get the sights I want and avoid wasting money with a set of sights I have no use.

Too bad you don't live next door and had the tools to install sights. I would just give you the dust collecting set.

I have owned 3 Kahrs and currently own a CM9. The Shield smokes the Kahr at the range. The Kahr is still smaller in the pocket, but the Shield is my favorite.

I can't think of any reason why it should be considered. It doesn't even compare to the M&P 9c or 40c.Its too big for a pocket pistol and too small for a duty pistol.I prefer full size pistols for ccw.

It is to big for Levi's but I don't find it uncomfortable in slacks or cotton pants pockets.

Since I owned pretty much everyone of those at one point in time, and currently own Shield 9mm , Beretta Nano and the Springfield XDS ( I know its a 45acp :) ) I have to agree with Russ on this one in the new 9mm subcompact/compact category it's definitely GOLD!!!! :)

Shield is a great CCW

Purchased the Shield 9mm in April and no regrets. Fired 350 rounds with no problems using both Winchester and Remington ammo. Also tried a few JHP with +P. I prefer the OWB leather holsters that sits high at the 3:30 position. Feel that it is a safe carry weapon and very reliable at hitting the target. I have several pistols and some are prettier and larger caliber. But who cares about a pretty gun...the Shield is now my choice for everyday carry.

Well my white dot fell out. How ever this little jewel has amazed me. Everything i feed it it loves goes bang everytime! She is now my full time carry gun for summer. Gun of the year....i cant see any other gun coming close so i say yes gold! Gun of the year

Russ, what night sights did you get? My Shield is also in need of a good set of night sights.

Shooting the S&W Shield with XS Big Dots - YouTube

Edmo:

After watching the youtube video (see link above) by James Yeager, Tactical Response who is also on some S&W produced videos I decided on XS Big Dot Night Sights.

I pocket conceal and I found the stock rear notch and post sight and some notch and post night sights for the Shield are prone to catch on the pocket as you draw due to the height of the Shield.

The rear sight of the XS is designed not to catch as explained in the video and I will say from personal experience it does not catch on my pocket and I have got my draw and dry fire down to just over one second in Dockers 34 x 32.

There are some who do not like the oversized front sight for long shots (over 12 yards) or the lack of tritium in the rear sight (that is how you can get a low profile rear sight) and I can attest the front sight does cover a large part of the 8 1/2" x 11 inch target past 12 yards but my Shield is a defense weapon and if you are using it for self defense the justified distances will be less than 10 yards and at that distance the sights do what they are intended to do better than any other sight I have owned -- lightning fast target acquisition of the kill zone.

I have to agree that the Shield is the Gun of the Year, and S&W should get kudos for the way they marketed it. I keep hearing a rumor that they're coming out with a 22LR version, made in America next year. I'll believe that when I see it. That said the Shield is a wonderful pistol that S&W got right, it will be a huge seller for them. Although my Nano is easier for pocket carry that is my least favorable mode of carry. Where the Shield really outclasses it's competition is how well it points shoot. This pistol feels like an extension of your hand doing point and shoot drills. The Shield definately gets my vote for "Gun of the Year".

the shield accurite, easy to CC, easy to shoot. reported mag. drops are/seem to be in certain #`ed groups as per the thread on SWF. holsters and accesories finally getting to the gun vendors. i was waiting for the XDS/45. springfield told me to many times this week, to many times. 1st. striker fired pistol i`ve owned. had a friend visit this week from out of state. her husband is a state police officier. they just changed over to M&P`s. i`m sure when we visit in a few weeks she will have a Shield.

Well..I have never shot the shield....so I won't argue gold, silver, or bronze....I hear great things about it. I love the M&P line of guns.....but I would put my Ruger P95 up against any of them as for as accuracy and dependability goes. It's a chunk to conceal...which I do everyday...but trust my life with it.

James Yeager brings the face palm because he has to use foul language and controls his youtube channel with an iron fist.
