Shield killer

Glock and Sig are on to something by manufacturing a ten round pistol that is small enough to conceal. When the country is restricted to ten round mags we will all be nanny states and they will be ahead of the game. Don't believe me if in 2020 the White House, Senate and the House are blue it will happen.

I just played with both today at the SHOT SHOW media day.

Meh, might as well carry a 19 or 26, I rather have the flexibility of using larger magazines and it isn't that much narrower - I don't mind the two tone finish, but prefer it to be all black.

While I just might buy a Sig P365, I don't think it will replace my 9mm Shield. The Shield is just too good of a gun to give up, a great carry gun.

Yes, the Sig carries more ammo, which is why I might own one, and I think it will appear in my case, or on my belt. On days I don't want more ammo than it provides, but more than the Shield. I already have guns that are compact, like the 2.0 and the 9c, and the RAP 9 Compact, even the Taurus PT111, and fill the more want.

A Glock, never again - I just don't shoot them well. Maybe if they correct that grip angle?

I really see nothing out there as a Shield Killer, at least not yet!

MHO

I have the Shield 9mm,1.0. I too was looking at the new Glock 43x and 45. I took a ride to the range with my shield and I rented a Glock 43x or the 45. I figured I'd try them side by side. Other then sporting more rounds,I did not like the 43x at all. I found it uncomfortable in my hand and just was not impressed with the 43x. Since I was there I tried the Ruger American compact and the Sig P320 compact and sub compact. My final thoughts on this would be......If I was to get anything to replaced the shield or add to my collection, I would go with the SIG. Unfortunatly there was no P365 to rent, but holding it, it does feel nice. I will keep my Shield for my EDC. If i need more uumf, I'll carry my 2.0 compact.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it !

It's great to have so many choices. I exclusively carry my Shield 1.0 and I'm not interested in replacing it. I have a friend who has a G43 and I like the Shield more. My son and I both bought Shield 1.0 in 2017 with the rebate. After the rebates arrived they cost us $220 each with FFL fees included. Deal of the decade!
I sold my Glock Gen 4 G19 last Sept and bought a G45 after shooting a friend's G19x. The G45 shoots great for me, I really like it.

I went to the range a few days ago and put many rounds through my friend's Beretta 92FS and the Wilson Combat Brig model. Great guns, but I shoot the G45 better.
I also shot a Shield 45, wow that gun kicks. I prefer the G30 to the Shield 45. I still haven't shot the 2.0 version of the M&P or Shield yet.

How reliable is that mag extension?
I have 5 8rd magazines with Hyve extensions. All reliable, but they're not cheap. My 7rd has a Strike Industries +2 extension...It fits and feels good on the 7rd mag but not on the 8rd mags so that's the one I carry in the gun, 7+2+1 and then 5 with 10rds...for a total of 60.

They are great ! I have never had an issue . They are very popular and come in many different colors if you like to customize your guns.

Glock seems to be all over the place this past year. Coming out with models that don't need to be. The 19x, the G45 which is a 9mm, the 43X which will kill the G43. I like Glock, I shoot Glock and live near Glock. I think I'll just build my own P80 this year.

Shield Killer...….nah. The 19X, 45,and 43X just seem like goofy attempts to sell guns that are just different enough that the fan boys have to have one. Just my opinion. Now the 48, that may make sense as it presents a light weight option for those who like Commander size firearms and don't feel the need to carry half a box of ammo in one mag.

As to the Shield, mine isn't leaving anytime soon. I have the PC .40, and added a Strike extension to my 6 round mag, and plan on adding the HYVE extensions to the 7 rounders. The biggest reason I'm looking at the Hyve's, I'm tired of the sleeves sliding on my 7 round mags when loading them. They also take me to 9+1 in my little .40 hand cannon. ;)

I've owned or fired just about every slim single stack 9mm on the market in the past 10 years.

I sold them all but the Kahr CM9 for pocket carry and the Shield 2.0. With mag guts installed it is 8+1 flush fit or 10+1 extended mag.

I love my G26 and carry it 12+1. Great gun, but the Shield is hard to beat for size and bang for your buck.

It's good enough I want another for a spare.

An old friend of mine in the auto business used to say "there's a fanny for every seat", meaning someone would buy any car you had for sale, just had to be the right person. Same for firearms, not everyone likes the same thing and that's a good thing, we have tons of choices. I carry the Shield, youngest son carries a Glock and oldes son carries an H&K. Everybody's happy.

I feed three (3) Shields reloads and they shoot them all, and mine is as accurate as I am. Haven't had a problem with them that I can remember except for "limp wrist" that was eliminated in about 30 seconds. If there is a problem, it's because they need cleaning about every 1,000 rounds.

I don't have a want though, and it's not a Glock, it's the Springfield Armory EMP 4 without the nubbed off grip. Has anyone tried those? They just feel good in my hand, pricey though.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Looks like Glock is following S&W for a change. Their 43X is now larger than the 43 as is the SW M&P compact 2.0 larger than the original Compact.
I guess making compacts less compact will be all the rage in 2019.

Cant wait for the triple stack 5" Shield ;-)

Shield killer - no way. I don't think the G43X or the G48 will kill this one off. :)

I got rid of my Glock 43. Got tired of shell cases to my head. Bought a 2.0 Shield forty and aftermarket .357 Sig barrel. The Shield is a great single stack in either forty or .357 Sig. If I want to shoot a nine I will shoot this one. :)

I handled both the 43X and the 48 at the LGS this evening. Basically the same gun, only the 43X has a shorter barrel and slide. We won't know how well they function or if there are any problems for a while, but I will say this...if Glock had introduced the 48 before the Shields came out, the narrative about Glock vs S&W might have been very, very different. 10+1 in a slim single stack, I hate to say it, but I'm impressed. Now if they just made it in .40.

Checked Out The G48

I am looking at this a bit different with Glocks new Model 48. The 43X frame and a 4" barrel. IMHO; I think the Glock 48 will be popular, and a good seller because it is thin, has a 4" barrel and holds 10 +1. I am not a fan of Glocks in general because they feel like a 2X4 in my hand, and although I have not personally seen or handled the new Glock 48, from what I have seen on line, it looks desirable. For folks that are not a LEO, and/or live in a magazine restricted state, this pistol make a lot of sense. I for one am not a fan of these tiny pistols and prefer a 4" barrel for ballistic performance instead of "How short of a barrel can you get" and 10 rounds is acceptable for the average concealed carrier. Full disclosure, I do currently own and usually carry the Shield in 9mm but have opined for something a little larger in a single stack. Now with all this said, once I get the 48 in my hand, I may have a different opinion, but for today, the 48 looks great!
I checked one out and it really seemed fine. Think a thin G19.
What I didn't like is that "silver looking" slide. Don't care for tu-tone guns. I figured I'd have to have the color changed. ($$)
I'm pretty well set up with a P320 compact (perfect) a M&P Shield and a P365__one really well designed pistol. My P320 has the Romeo 1 reflex sight and my Shied has the Shield RMS reflex sight__that I consider the best. I have a G43 with a Shield RMSc
on it. A Ruger is a vehicle pistol.
As much as I admire and like my reflex sights__I just can't bring myself to change the P365.
The G48? Maybe if not for that "Silver" slide I may have purchased it. Then....do I need another pistol?
For anyone in the market, check out that G48. Glock should have brought it out a lot earlier and BLACK. I think it'll be a better seller than the G43x.

I will keep my shield. Glock is yesterdays news. Good guns for sure! but they are not as dominant as they once were.
