Hi everyone....I bought a shield and I am one of the few who have had a problem.

My problem is/was that after taking a shot my slide would stick in the open position even though the magazine was still full.

The gun has been returned to S&W and I am pretty sure its been worked out. Before I sent it back, it jammed up 5 times in 200 shots. After I got it back, it only happen 1 time in 400 rounds and it was early in the session.

It looks like S&W replaced the barrel as the marks on the barrel that I'll show in the pics I attach were not there when the gun came back from them.

I would like to see if any other Shield owners have these marks on their barrel/chamber. Please see attached pics. Thanks

I've heard of two others having the same type issue. I wonder how close the serial #'s are? I haven't been able to try mine yet.

Check out Sturmgewere's video on Youtube. It's the best Shield video I've seen out there. It happens to him on the last round because his big hands touch the slidestop just enough.

S&W M&P Shield Review - YouTube

Gonna watch it now. Thanks.

FWIW, when my slide would stick, the only way to get it "unstuck" was to smack the back of the slide with the palm of my hand. After every malfunction, the slide stop, was in the down position and the slide would stay open with or without a magazine installed.

I don't have anything like that happening. With only a few/two reported, that is a pretty low count for all that have been shipped and sold. I too would like to see a comparison with the SN's to figure out if there was a bad batch with a particular part.

Sounds like the slide was hanging up on the barrel which obviously shouldn't happen. It seems that something is out of spec and if it still happened again after getting your Shield back it may be the slide and not the barrel. I now have 2 Shields and never experienced anything like that. Once is to many occurrences, I'd send it back again and I'm sure they will sort it out. With S&W cranking out so many of these pistols a few bad ones are likely to get out.

No one said the shield is junk, Now that a couple people have had this happen! Pipe down, no reason to defend your beloved shield yet..

I would like to know what steps S&W took to price the Shield $100 less than a similar M&P9c. [Cheaper parts etc] GARY N4KVE

OK My barrel does not look like that one at all. First of all the OD of my barrell is .550
Here is a picture of mine

Have you called S&W to ask. This is what I would do.

I sent my gun back. Three weeks including transit time to get it back. I have 400 rounds thru it since I got it back. 1 malfunction which happened on the 97th round. I am assuming that I needed to "break in" the gun again, so I am not overly concerned about the 1 malfunction, yet.

Today I'm gonna do another 400 or so....If it jams up again from this point forward, it's going back to S&W again.

What type of malfunction are you refering to, and does my barrel looks different than your first one ??
