We've been standardized on Shield as EDC for some time now. The rust on the mag release was a problem with the original Shield, and Smith had sent me several new ones under warranty. I had hopes Smith would fix that in the Shield Plius.
It seems they did not. Both the mag release and that roll pin still rust under EDC in hot Texas. This isn't enough of a problem to have us move off the Shield Plus. I still believe it's the best subcompact double stack carry 9 available for a reasonable price.
The Plus does better than the original Shield. See pic of much worse rust on my son's Shield carry after one year. We wound up cerakoting that weapon.
Has anyone tried an aftermarket mag release for the Plus made of stainless steel? I don't see much point in putting in more new buttons from Smith that will rust again in 6 summer months.
