I just got my shield and took it to the range today it is shooting to the left. The guy with me shot it and it did the same for him. Can I move the sight since they are fixed or what's my options? He said a sight pusher would fix it, what do you guys think?

My guess is it's the way you are gripping the pistol or the placement of your index finger on the trigger. It could be a combination of both. I was doing the same thing with mine and have seen a whole lot of people doing it too. I think the grip is so slim, it takes some getting used to.

i finally found a 9mm shield and took it to the range today. It was also shooting to the left. i think it was me not being use to the gun. My wife shot it and did not have any trouble.

My answer assumes your sights are properly centered.

Get your hand and arm directly behind the pistol.

I am betting you and your friend are right handed, and that both of you are cranking the hand around the pistol to get extra leverage or because you cannot reach the trigger. That causes the pistol, which recoils a little while the bullet is still in the barrel, to twist to the left, causing your shots to go left.

Down and to the left is the most common with poor shooting technique (e.g. jerking the trigger).

First timenowner and shooter of a cf pistol and I did the same my first time with my shield 40.. it also beat the hell out of my hand. So I onew my grip was bad.. fixed it by watching a few yt vids on fundamentals. The one with the chalk board is good. Wprk on grip and trigger technique almost nightly.. second trip to the range and I was centered on the target. I think woth the gun so small it amplifies any issues.

I also rented a 1911 and probably could have wrote my name with it.. haha

Thanks for the replies, I could believe it was my grip or the way I was holding it but the guy with me is a master in competitive shooting and he was shooting left as well.

Youtube proper handgun grip.

I had the same problem.

The weapon when gripped should appear as a straight line with your forearm.

Concentrate on squeezing trigger without flexing your wrist.

Practice Dry Fire:

Gun empty point at an object say in your living room and squeeze off trigger. Focus on the object you are aiming at as you squeeze the trigger.

The sights should stay fixed at all times on object as you squeeze trigger.

I have read a laser sight is great for dry fire practice. As you squeeze trigger the dot should not move from object.

Please make sure weapon is empty including magazine before you do some dry fire drills.

Note: Cocking my Shield to dry fire only requires the slide to move less than one inch after each trigger squeeze.

Good Luck

Mine shoots to the left as well.

I've shot bullseye competition way back in the day, was on a competitive shooting team, yada, yada. True expereince teaches you the first thing to look at is yourself.

A gun shooting to the left is pretty common for a right hander, indicating trigger control, and concentrating on the trigger may yeild some positive results.

Of course the sights could be off too. I've shot enough M&P's, and own four now, and the sights being off aren't really out of the question either.

My Compact hit to the right. The front sight was indeed off. I moved it and it shoots dead on now. The Shield's grip and trigger are sufficiently different that I want a few more rounds out of mine before moving the sights. I still recognize that it may well be me. If I decide the sights need to be moved, I'll move them.

Think of it this way: As long as you are doing everything exactly the same, you will get the same result. If you keep getting the same result, and several other people do as well, there's no problem with moving the sights.

Shoot it enough that you're satisfied it's not you. If the rounds are still hitting in the same place, then just move the sights.

Small weapons like the Shield can be a challenge to grip properly especially if the shooter has large hands.

The first pad of my trigger finger naturally aligns with my full size XD 45. However, when I switch to my Shield the first joint making contact with trigger feels more natural.

The Ruger LCP 380 is even a greater challenge with my large hands to grip properly. That is why I will not own a weapon smaller than my Shield.

MY Shield shoots dead nutts. I haven't shot out to 25yds yet but inside 15 its as accurate as my 226.

I would suspect, as many others already have that the grip size and the manner in which you manipulate your hands while aim is leading to your consistent issue.

I am having the same problems with low left shots while shooting the shield also. I also have big hands and long fingers and I realize now that that makes for an awkward grip when you have to move your trigger finger out away from the joint. I don't like it at all.

One thing I did notice with my shield was the rear sight was shifted to the right slightly when I removed it to polish the striker block. This leads me to belive that there was a left shooting bias with my gun from the factory that they compensated for.

I am going to shot mine some today and try shooting off of a rest to confirm its accuracy and see if it is indeed my trigger pull making it low left or not.

Shoot your Shield off a sandbag rest at about 15 yards - This will tell you if the sights are off center or if your technique is the problem. IF it is you, then pay attention to your grip - Make sure the heel of your support hand is making firm contact with the grip. Also, dry fire practice with some snap caps will do wonders. Good luck and keep at it...

This has helped me. I was hitting just about everything low and left.

I don't think they shoot them at the factory more than once. In addition, my rear sight is not quite centered either. I let my son shoot my Shield and he is left handed. Guess where many of his his shots went? Low and to the right...hence the reason I think most of the left shooting Shields can be attributed to grip and trigger control.

That's a good chart ;)

If you do end up needing to adjust the sights, remember...
Unlike many pistols, where you adjust the rear sight, the rear sight of the Shield is NOT adjustable. With the Shield, you adjust the Front Sight.

Hopefully though, it's only a matter of adjusting your grip and trigger control. I know MANY people who shoot matches with FS and Compact (double-Stack) pistols who initially shoot left with Single-Stack Subcompacts.

Thanks again this forum is awesome, so many knowledgeable folks. I'll give your responses a try and figure this out. Again thanks
