Shield sight fell off!!

My bad!! Sorry for that comment. That was just not the answer I expected to see on this forum.

Lost Lake is right, I was just pulling your leg a little bit, I know you are disappointed in your new gun, I'm truly sorry that the dot fell out of your rear sight. I have been rather disappointed in some of the reports about the shield and Smith and Wesson's responses to their very faithfull customers new or old. I was really poking a little fun at those who "cover" for our favorite gun company, and make excuses for the shield. I'm quite sure that Smith and Wesson will take care of your pistol, and although I don't own one, I'm sure they are very handy as well accurate, and they will eventually get them well sorted. Welcome to the Smith and Wesson forum and I will try to comport myself with the decorum you expected sir.

I myself have used the white pearlescent nail polish, and if I wished for an orange sight, I always paint the orange over the white to make it "pop". Allow it to dry between coats, and if you change your mind later, nail polish remover will make short work of that. I have lately found that I don't see the orange very well...I am rather certain given the popularity of the shield that night sights etc will soon follow. billy magg

Thanks guys! I'm going to go with tfo, I found them for a good price on eBay. Is there any difference on the sights for the m&p line. I saw that some were more than the other?

Per request:

Shield 40 with sight dots painted with florescent nail polish, and slide engravings in antique gold.

Shield 40, FS M&P9, and 40 slide assembly. Note the FS40 is color-coded silver, while the FS9 is gold

The Ruger also has the gold added to the lettering. (The photos just don't do the gold justice.)

Williams adjustable Fire Sights on both the M&P9 and the Ruger Mark III. TruGlo TFLs on the M&P40 slide.

P.S. Two smaller red-dots recently failed on the Ruger, so I'm trying something larger until the replacements arrive.

IT"S IRONIC. I just got back from the range and thought I would logon and bellyache about my new Shield 9. First time out and had decided to limber the little hummer up. Around round number 115 the front sight dot popped off. After reading other posts, I realized I actually got fairly good mileage out of the front dot. Put 250 rounds of 115 & 124 FMJ through it; 4 different reputable manufactures. MY Shield never hiccuped and just kept eating every thing I stuffed in it. Appears to be right on "POA" @ 15yds. Made my thumb sore trying to loosen up new mags. I finally gave up, acknowledged my Shield was tougher than me, and came home pleased at my first Shield outing. BTW: I'll stuff a little white paint in the front sight divot and continue to enjoy it. I'm just proud I don't have to shoot a Chinese pistol.

The same thing happened to the front sight of mine at the range:

And if this is the most serious problem I have with this gun then I'm a happy guy! :) Happened at the 1,200 round mark.

Pic taken at the range.

Pic taken at home. Took me all of 30 seconds to fix it. I used metal paint for model cars applied with a toothpick.

Anybody tried mixing glow powder with clear epoxy. Charge it with a good light source for 60 seconds and it'll glow all night. I use green from GloNation. Works great

Guys who had their sight dot fall off, did you ever get cleaning solvent on the dot before it fell off?

I may have but I doubt it as I am careful. This is the only pistol I have had this happen to but like I said in my post; if this is the worst problem I have then I'm happy. Personally, my shield is my favorite small semi-auto so far.

I've had the dots fall out on a few brands. A quick dot or two of paint and it's better than new, never to fall out again.

What's a UpLula loader?:D (lets see how much mileage I get out of this question).

Was at the range this week and some guy in the next lane was struggling to load 45's in a single stack for an XDS. Just reached over with mine to offer it and he says "no thanks, I got one in my bag"! I'm thinking, you look like your gonna have a stroke loading them mags! He was shaking, his face was all red, I'm laughing my a** off on the inside. I would have dialed 911 if I had to but it was funny!

Grab yourself an UpLULA loader and you'll wonder how you ever lived before you found it.

Wonderful tool to have. ;)

I visited Walmart tonight in anticipation of the sight problem happening to my Shield.

Walmart has acrylic glow and non glow paint for $1.97 in their arts and crafts section. They also have glow and non glow lacquer nail polish in their cosmetics section. I'm thinking the nail polish will hold up better than the acrylic paint if gun cleaner gets splashed on it. Is that correct?

I've tried both. The acrylic can hold up IF you finish with a layer of clear nail polish on top as a seal.

The other problem with the acrylic I used was that there was a lot of shrinkage while drying, leaving a "pit" in the center of the dot that needed more paint to fill it.

The nail art polish that I found at the local Meijer store came in a bottle with both a pen and brush applicator. The pen, dispensing the polish with a slight squeeze of the bottle, was great for easily doing the sight dots, even better than using a toothpick.
