Shingles.......OUCH!

My pain Dr. gives me Lidocaine patches for my back . He told me they were originally made for shingles . If your Dr. won't prescribe them , they are OTC now .I took gabapentin for years because of nerve pain . The stuff will mess with your head , affects memory and all sorts of things . It's a blessing when you need it , but has a lot of side effects . Good luck !

I'm not sure which is worse, shingles or kidney stones. Kidney stones are constant until passed. Shingles hurt if touched. But, boy, howdy, when they are touched it is a new pain experience. It is nothing like anything else I have experienced.

I had the kidney stone, now I’m going for the shingles shot.

I was lucky with the stone, somehow I passed it without knowing, it must’ve been small. But peeing what looked like pure blood over 12 hours was sure freaky.

I'm glad my pharmacist told me (a year ago) to wait until after the first of the year as the new vaccine would be out and it is 98% effective vs the old only 50% effective. Two shot vaccine.

About four years ago at the urging of my dutiful wife I got the old single Shingles shot. Three months later I came down with Shingles all across the front of my mid section. The good was it wasn't on my back. The bad was that it hurt like heck for anything to touch it. Gabapentin and Prednisone in fairly low dosages put a merciful end to the Shingles. I think that I am going to ask about getting the new vaccine. ......

I don't recall ever having chicken pox but just in case I got a vaccine several years ago and the new 2 stage vac just recently. From what I heard/read about shingles sufferers I thought it a good idea.

From one gun nut to another I hope for the best outcome for all you sufferers.

Shingles
Been there...90 days of hell....still having issues w nerve damaged a few years later. I quote you....."More painful than my recovery from cancer surgery"...I am not fooling guys.....

there is hope.....I cant take the prescribed opiates , I get violently sick.

try medical cannabis if it is available
if not have somebody get some for you......seriously

Anything is worth a try. My bro used it when he had cancer. I don't like the stuff, but if it helped....

To the OP: There is no such thing as a "crybaby" when it comes to shingles. We hadn't heard about it in the '50s when I was exposed (post chicken pox) by my cousins. All I remember is that it was the first time I cried from pain since I was 5 (I was 12).

Learned a lot about shingles treatments in the past few days. Lidacane %5 patch and Gabapentin pills pretty much took out the pain. Still discomfort its bearable and I can sleep now. I've been down to my knees in the john passing a stone, good news is that only lasts for a short time. Thanks everyone for the prayers and advice. I already have an appointment to get the new shoot when this clears up.

Some conditions are plenty good enough reason to be a cry baby. There have been a few occasions in my life where you could have seen a grown man cry. I haven't had shingles but they are way up there in the misery without relief category.:(:(:(

Yep, same here.
Going through a spasm from an anal fissure, had me cursing myself for selling my Model 19. Doubt that a .22 would penetrate my three inch thick skull. The worst pain that I've experienced.
Fortunately, a family member had a left over pill from surgery.

Mt company provided healthcare insurance will not pay for the new two shot shingles meds and here they are darned expensive. We don't know whether to risk it of bit the bullet and pay for it out of our own funds. Its a tough call …
My insurance will not pay for it either. I debated it since it was $160+ times 2 at Costco.

My wife said GET IT! She had shingles one summer. She told me she would gladly pay ten times that amount not to go through that again.
So I got both shots. There goes the gun budget! :o

Your wife was right get the shots, even if you have to pay for them. Your gun budget will recover OK!

I'm lucky I have very good insurance but rest assured after having fun with a nasty bout of shingles I would pay for them out of my own pocket.

Perhaps because I'm in an expensive part of the country, my cost was closer to 200 per shot. It is what it is. No problem.Health has to be #1.

Gotta keep things in perspective. No that I'm financially limited at all, but I remember selling a Model 63 for 600 something. That same amount of money from a little plinking revolver, bought me a new generator, which has so much more in the way of components and machine work, etc.etc, and which was a lifesaver during Storm Sandy.

How are you guys getting the darned Shingrix shot?
I've been asking about it for over a year and the answer has consistently been
"We don't have any available - there is a NATIONAL shortage of the vaccine."
Today they tell me there is a waiting list for people who have had the first shot and need the second dose, and that there isn't even a waiting list I can get put onto for people who haven't had the first shot yet.

Blind luck I guess. I was in for a physical and the doc asked me if I wanted the first shot. They even had the second round when I was scheduled. I was surprised since I'd heard the supply was inconsistent.
