Talking with my local gun dealer, he told me that a non FFL can now ship a handgun through the post office legally. There is a form that you fill out that is basically an affidavit stating that it is a licensed dealer that you are sending the firearm to. Just curious if anyone has heard of this.
The reason I ask is the dealer is a younger guy, but very thorough. I can’t find anything in Google with a recent date pertaining to the subject.

As far as I know he's wrong about that. I can't find anything, the BATFE still says no on their site and the only USPS form I can find clearly states it's for licensed dealers only.

He is mistaken, IMO.

Only FFLs can ship handguns via USPS.

You can ship a long gun via USPS.

Do you honestly think a gun-hating administration would ease gun shipping rules for civilians? Puh-leeze.

Ask him to print off the applicable postal regulation for you. It will never appear.

Definitely not! And let me share a story from the past two weeks regarding the usps. I bought back a pistol I sold earlier this year, yeah I know never should’ve sold it in the first place. Well the shipping dealer used the usps to send to my receiving dealer. The receipt showed it was supposed to be delivered two days later. Uh huh-9 days to get here!!! Tracking only showed it at the facility in originating state and then 9 days later at the local po. Crazy!

I try to avoid USPS when ever possible with any shipping of anything.

It sounds unlikely, to be sure, but no harm — and a lot of interest here, for sure — in asking your local gun dealer for a copy of the form, or a link to the form, etc.

If he comes up with something, please post it.

USPS form for shipping firearms is PS Form 1508

The USPS form for shipping firearms is PS Form 1508, Statement by Shipper of Firearms. The mailer must sign the form to certify that they are a licensed manufacturer, dealer, or importer of firearms. They must also state that the parcels are being mailed for customary trade shipments or to repair or replace parts, and that the addressees are licensed manufacturers, dealers, or importers of firearms.
