I recently acquired a large quantity of assorted factory ammo. About 6,500 rounds of mostly .38 Spec and .41 Mag. Any thoughts on a reasonable priced way to ship this from GA to my home in WY?
Can you ship USPS or will it have to go FEDEX/UPS?

You must ship ammo UPS / FedEx only. No USPS

I'm not so sure about that, USAF.

I've shipped handgun ammo from Indiana to California twice in the past three months using the USPS.

I'm shipping from an authorized shipping center and the ORM-D labels are clearly visible on all sides of the boxes.

According to the counter clerk, the shipment MUST be by ground transport only. They placed two stickers on the package showing a round red circle with a red bar going thru an image of an aircraft.

There is also a large poster in the lobby showing ammunition as being allowed for shipping.

I wonder if a large number of those flat rate "if it fits, it ships" boxes from the USPS would work out? It would take quite a few boxes, but price-wise it would be interesting to know how that would pencil out.

This is from pg. 21 of the USPS Guide to Mailing:
Some items, however, are not
permitted in the mail, including:
· Alcoholic beverages
· Ammunition
· Drug paraphernalia
· Fireworks and other explosives
Call 1·800·ASK·USPS or visit your
Post Office if you have questions
about the item you want to mail.

About a year ago, an FFL friend routinely shipped ammo via USPS. He said he was doing it for many years. One day a box got damaged in shipment and the contents were revealed to a USPS employee. Next day my friend gets a call from postal inspectors notifying him of the situation. Luckily for him it didn't get ugly.
He now ships via UPS.
I personally use Fedex, their ground game is superior to UPS. Air shipments are a different story, UPS rules there.

Those flat rate USPS boxes are great for heavy items such as lead.

I routinely use UPS with home pickup.

70# max.

As suggested, check truck freight prices.

I have found UPS to be cheaper on small quantities than others, but never had anything near what you need to ship.

Well, I was able to ship it all Fedex. Used two footlockers and cost just over $230.00 but its on its way by surface to Wyoming. Est. four days delivery.
