Hey all,
I'm going to be shipping my Colt upper to Adco for some barrel/rail work, what's the best method of shipping said upper? I'm a little bit nervous about sending my upper off and what could happen to it. So what would y'all recommend?

Best Wishes

Shipping an upper is like sending a pistol slide as far as Federal law is concerned. It is a gun part, not a gun. FYI, if you use the USPS, send registered mail and insured. Dawson Precision told me NOT to use USPS at all due to high incidence of loss.

Don't lie to the carrier about what is in the package, in case you have to make an insurance claim, but as Scott said, don't mark the outside of the package or use a gun box that screams "steal me."

What I would do:

1. Ship in a box shape that does not telegraph "UPPER INSIDE"

2. Pony up for the appropriate insurance coverage

3. Strip off any components that are not necessary for the work to be done.

4. Include a packing slip detailing the work order number, your address, and detailed description of the contents.

5. Ship UPS. Their tracking system is the best out there.

6. Choose an expedited shipping a method. The less time it take for the box to transit through the shipping service, the less opportunity for theft.

7. E-mail the shop a copy of the packing list and the shipment tracking number.
