Just purchased a 1905 Hand Ejector M&P 6" (my first) and I have a serial number of 280219. Any idea of a shipping date by the brain trust?

Thanks!

I think 1919 since there is no trademark stamp.
Guy. Perhaps you are right, but my recollection was that the monogram disappeared during or immediately after the war. Wouldn't a 1918 shipment be sans monogram also? I don't own any between 1916 and 1920, so I can't look. Help me out here, please.

That's beautiful!
I certainly agree with this part of your post!

Time to check that right stock panel for a serial number. Beautiful example!

Jack, to my knowledge military Model 1917's never had a monogram. Their production started in December 1917. The government seized control of production on Sept. 13, 1918 and maintained control until January 1919. My assumption is that is when production of other models were stopped which also stopped the stamping of monograms on all S&W revolvers. So, it is possible an M&P in the 280K serial range could have shipped in 1918. I have seen at least one in the 288K range shipping in April 1918 and several in the 290K range in January 1919. But, I don't know if they had the monogram stamp or not. My presumption is the Jan. 1919 guns did not.

I don't have that answer. If it is in pencil you might have to shine a bright light on a sharp angle to see it The old graphite gets worn down.

Just so you know…

Following your instructions and then seeing this pic was like when Indy found the location of the Arc with the medallion, angle of the sun, and staff of Ra.

Pretty durn cool.
