Shockwave!

I picked one up today from the LGS for $425.70 out the door. This included 250 rounds of dove/target shotshells and a simple shotgun cleaning kit. This included Idaho state tax and a 5% discount for being a veteran. :D

I'll be heading to the range tomorrow and will post photos soon.

BTW, mine came with the swivel eye on the grip.

So yesterday evening I finished my second Shockwave. I bevelled the ejection and loading ports, took the slack out of the trigger, and dehorned the safety. It's pretty sweet now. I just need a good 100 rounds through it or so to get it nice and slick. I slightly enjoy these guns.

Here are photos from my first time out at the range with my new firearm. Sorry, the photos are out of focus, but my phone takes crappy photos and will not focus at all anymore.

The first photo is of the target with 12 rounds of birdshot fired at 3 yards (bad breath distance. I did shoot it out to 30 yards and was eventually pretty accurate to that distance, but I want to be accurate out to 5 yards. I have more practicing to do...). This was after firing about 30 rounds through it to get the feel and to learn how it shot. I was high left for the first ten or so shots. If the photo was in focus, you may be able to see some 9mm holes in the paper as well - after I ran the firearm empty, I drew and fired two rapid shots with my 9mm as backup, just in case.

The Shockwave shot well, and it was not as bad as I was expecting. I shot 100 birdshot shells, ten reduced-recoil slugs, and 25 #4 buckshot shells. My right wrist was a bit sore when I got home, but otherwise, I was good.

The second photo is of both of my firearms.

What was the weight of the shot charge on your bird shot? Did you find the #4 Buck to recoil more or less than it? I'm guessing that it was pretty standard 27 pellet 2¾"?

A picture of twins...sort of. I have left the one set up with the cheater strap, but other than that they are almost identical. It will probably end up with a synthetic loop sling of a different color. I like the design and find it better than the cheater strap. The largest problem with the cheater strap is if you don't make it inside and grab over top of it, the forend has a severely diminished grip surface. The synthetic loop sling is easier to get into and in a quick motion it allows the gun to be slung or goes taut and stays out of the way.

I just bought one yesterday. Won't get to shoot it till the middle of next week. In the mean time, I've got a bunch of target 12ga loads, I think #8 shot, light loads. I'll try them first.

I took my Remington version Gatekeeper II (yeah, I should have waited for Remington to come out with theirs) to the range a few days ago. A buddy of mine, who is a grizzled veteran of shooting, finally decided to shoot mine after I kept encouraging him. I had taken a bucket full of 12 ga. reloads (#8). I think my buddy didn't really want to like the gun, but the longer he shot, the bigger the grin on his face! There is a learning curve, but he was quick to get on and stay on target, out to 15 yards.

Palmetto has the Remington for $379 free shipping.

I'll tell ya... with my paw riding about an inch away from the muzzle I'm a lot more comfortable with it inside the Shockwave strap.

I've handled them both and I agree. Also, I'm left handed, and Mossberg's tang safety and the position of the slide release just work better for me . . .

When I bought my Shockwave, they also had a Remington. The strap, the extra round and the safety positioning were all equal deciding factors. The Remington is nice looking, but there is just a cool factor that the Shockwave has.

I found the Op Sol to be unacceptable in my Shockwave. I have since replaced it with a Hollister device. It's plastic (the utube doesn't mention that) and uses a different design to facilitate using the minishells. I used skate tape on both sides of the receiver to insure a tighter fit. I'd like to get some feedback/info on some low recoil 2 3/4" shells.
Any info much appreciated, Jim

After my first range outing, the first accessory I installed was an aftermarket forend strap for my Gatekeeper II.
