Shoot Your Partner When the Bear Attacks

"The encounter took place at about only 15 feet"

That is waaaay too close for comfort! And she had a cub! Both these guys are lucky, even the one accidentally shot by his friend. Thankfully, he survived.

That must have been a very exciting couple of moments, to say the least.

My wife and I were talking about this the other day. I was in the process of buying a 44 magnum...."You never know when you'll run up on a bear" was my excuse. She said all she needed was that little 22 short pistol we've got. She doesn't have to outrun the bear. She only has to out run me.

Since she uses a cane or a walker, I doubt she'll ever be anywhere near a bear, but it was an interesting statement.

I dimly recall an alternative to the "shoot your buddy" thing. The one guy was putting on his running shoes and the other guy remarked: "You know you can't outrun the grizzly don't you?" Reply: "Only have to outrun you."

Whitefish is an exclusive resort town. Any and all kinds make there home there. $2 million dollars would get you an acceptable one bedroom condo a few years ago before the rush started. Not your typical Montana residents.

Anytime your in bear country it's beautiful and scary. Came around a bend in the trail hiking in Glacier and there was a big pile of still steaming poo. If I hadn't stopped to retire my boot 30 yds back, we could have handed the bear a roll of Charmin. We all looked at each other differently the rest of the hike trying to figure out who would be the sacrificial lamb :)

Copied from the linked article: "The U.S. Geological Survey’s Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team keeps track of the Greater Yellowstone bear population, including morality(sic) rates".

That could be a very interesting study!:D:D

Accompanyed my brother in law as a second set of eyes and hands on an elk hunt near the park a decade ago and stayed in Cooke city. There is something about walking in at 0 dark 30 without lights in that country lol. At dawn one morning I discovered I was sitting within a few ft of the biggest pile of bear poo I’ve ever seen! Another morning some wolves cut loose just at dawn. Amazing country

That area is the haven of the got rich on tech Washington types. That and trust funders. My niece sells cabinets and such there. I suspect the gun used had all the latest features.
