Thoughts on out of state moving & local resentment

I live near a smaller city in west Texas. It's an area of the state that doesn't have anything to offer outsiders and is very clannish. New people will be looked at with suspicion, especially if they have moved from the west coast or the northern part of the east coast. Foreigners, especially middle eastern types are simple not wanted, respected, nor welcomed.

Hmmm.. this type of thinking is wrong on so many counts I’m not sure what to say without getting in trouble with the moderators.

Lots of wealthy folks move to Santa Fe, NM.
House prices there are high!
So they just passed this-
Santa Fe wants its wealthiest residents to fund housing for the neediest. On Tuesday, the New Mexico city overwhelmingly approved a so-called mansion tax, which will levy a 3% excise tax on residential property sold for $1 million or more and use the revenue to fund affordable housing.

I remember not too long ago the prevailing thought on gun boards was that their fellow gun owners should move to free states. NY SAFE ACT thread? Move to a free state. CA AWB question or gripe? Move to a free state. That attitude sure has changed.

What they mean is: You have stupid laws! Just move! (Not here, though.)

One of the reasons is that states are falling one by one. If you move to a good state and then it becomes a commie state, why did you move in the first place?

I used to love travelling to West Texas on business. The only thing that bothered me was that it was a dry county and I could't have beer. But then I got friendly with a local and went to his house all the time. The problem was he liked whiskey and never had any beer on hand.....

Yea, but they have one of my favorite little airports. Used to fly in there when I had to go to Los Alamos, Taos and Questa. Always some of my favorite business trips. Love the people, HATE the green chille.

^This. The creeping death of the Urban Majority imposing its ideas on everyone else keeps jumping states lines.

See Clark County vs the rest of NV, SeaTac vs the rest of WA, Portland vs the rest of OR.

Illinois used to be a red state. Chicago was always blue, but couldn't override downstate. It's been consistently blue since the early '90s

NY is a solid red state.

Except for few TINY blue dots in NY City and Buffalo. The problem is that there are a gazillion more people in the cities, most all on the dime.

How can the honest people possibly compete?

Like I said - very clannish. It might be a wrong way of thinking for outsiders, but the locals like living here, and sure as heck don't need or want some strangers moving in and trying to change things to match the reasons they left their utopias.
Two years ago we had a family move in down the road from us from the great state of california and they have surprised even the most suspicious. They have melded into our lifestyle like natives. They act like 100% Texan and they are treated with the respect they have earned. We also have very little crime, no homeless camps, and buy what we need rather than loot stores. We is happy campers.

I usually say the only things I’m afraid of are Cancer and Women who weigh more than me.
But this Map scares the Hell out of me!
LA County in Red.
States in Gray have more population than LA County.
States in Blue have less population than LA County.

What makes you think that you have to tell people at your new location where you came from?

I sure don't have to. They already know! As soon as I say something, they'll say: "New York, huh?" I can call any # in the phone book (remember them?) and the party will say, "Hello, Kaaskop49!" An annoying thing is running into other NYers and being asked particulars of "where from" down to the intersection. These folks don't like me, particularly, as I'm not looking to rub shoulders. The casinos all know me, but that's due to their facial recognition systems.

The more experience you pile up, the more you realize people are nosy and will say nothing about themselves.

When Mrs and I moved from Pa to southern Delaware, we experienced a good bit of the, "Ya ain't from around here, Er ya?" Mentality, Mrs, being the shrinking violet that she was, had a rather curt retort to that.

When we moved to Florida in 2002, we were involved in one of those rotating dinner groups, dining at neighbors' homes. One fellow boldly said to me, " i am Noth Carolinian by buth, and Gamecock by the grace of God. And we dont give a damn how y'all did it up north." To which I politely replied."I would not waste my time telling you how we did it up north because you'd **** it up anyway."

No problems after that

Difficult to mess up what's already messed up. That from a Noth Carolinian.;)

Spent a decent amount of time visiting my parents who relocated to western NC after my Dad retired in '86. Downhill from their place was a volunteer fire dept. who sponsored a picnic a couple times a year, it was a great resource for local info and good natured ribbing about Florida "pipple".
I've found that locals here, there and other where have a common thread. If they've managed to keep there sanity and sensibilities I've found they will offer the shirt off their back but faced with discourtesy or worse will make every effort and go to great length to eliminate the problem.
