Shooter 629-3 Classic

You got a real good deal on that Classic man, good for you! I bought one around 3 years ago and paid around $800, but mine came with box and tools too. I have well over $1000 in mine now though. I bought a gold bead patridge front sight for mine and also bought a wonderful set of Culina round to square conversion coke target stocks in Italian Olive wood for it too. If you don't care for rubber grips like myself and want a set of good looking wood grips that are still easy on the hands, bite the bullet and spend the bucks and get a set of Culina stocks.

Here is how mine sits nowadays.

I'm considering a brass bead, but want to try it out "as is" first.

Culina stocks are beautiful, but they seem to be hard to come by. I'd really like to see how they handle recoil relative to the rubber Hogues. Not having tried them before, it seems like an expensive gamble.

Nice catch! $600 would be a steal in Kalifornistan. I passed on one in the consignment case several years ago and still consider it "one that got away."

The beaded patridge sight is just wonderful for me. I first tried them out on my "Outnumbered" 27-5 gun which came with the pinned on version. Since the Classic uses the quick change version, it was easy to install and the sight blade itself isn't a pocketbook killer either. I think I paid around $29 shipped at Brownell's for it. The one I bought is the version that S&W sells, not the more expensive SDM Manufacturing version.

Here is a link to the sight if you are interested: <<<LINK>>> The Brownell's part number is 940-000-817WB

As for the Culina stocks, if you were closer I would invite you to the range to try my gun out with some stout 44 Mag loads and then have you shoot the same rounds through your gun with the Hogue rubbers on it and see what you think. I have no problems shooting stout loads with my Culinas on my Classic.

I think you did well! As has been stated, you got a "fair" deal -if not better.

I've got just two N-Frames...
One is a 629-3, 4" bbl. with a very smooth trigger. I've got a hogue monogrip on it and it's one .44 I'll keep!

I have Culina stocks on my 29, there's no problem shooting with them. I'm not a young man and I can handle mag. loads without any problem. John is now located in Springfield, OR and here's his email and phone #s: ([email protected]) and (650) 450-2955 will get you Jennifer for orders and (541) 653-9924 to talk to John at the shop. Not hard to come by at all. If you want to check out his products try Home - Culina LLC.

Bill, I noticed your 44 has an unfluted cyl? Was that something you did aftermarket? Or did it come from the factory that way?

Thanks

OK, you got me. My gold bead front site arrived today. Did you keep the white outline rear site? I'm thinking about trying to find a plain black one.

I had been considering the purchase of a 629 with the endurance package. I'd put several on my watch list on the auction site and leave them there until their prices surpassed my budget. This one sat with no bids, so I threw my hat in the ring at the opening amount of $599.

I ended up being the only bidder. I figured that I must have missed something in the listing that drove away other potential bidders. I picked it up from my FFL last night and neither of us could find anything wrong with it.

I'm pretty sure this is the model I had a chance to shoot this afternoon. I know it was a 629 Classic, but I'm unsure of the dash. What a great hand cannon. Accurate too. I've added it to my "want to get" list.

Well... My first set of Culina stocks arrived today. The 629-3 now wears birdseye maple.

They look great on it, zipty6!

Just to give you some info, 3 weeks ago I went to the range with all 3 of my 44 mags, my 629-3 Classic, 29-6 Classic and my new-to-me 29-2 which are all wearing Culina stocks. I shot around 250 rounds of 44 mag, most of them loaded hot out of my 3 revolvers. At the end of the session my hand still felt good.

Is there a name for those stocks zipty? Like a size or model?

Thanks

They were referred to as "Birdseye Maple N round conversion target grip" in our email correspondence. I really can't say enough about the experience. I had never ordered custom grips before. They were very friendly and made the process easy.
