Shooter 629-3 Classic

I think you did well! As has been stated, you got a "fair" deal -if not better.

I've got just two N-Frames...
One is a 629-3, 4" bbl. with a very smooth trigger. I've got a hogue monogrip on it and it's one .44 I'll keep!

Bill, I noticed your 44 has an unfluted cyl? Was that something you did aftermarket? Or did it come from the factory that way?

Thanks

You got a real good deal on that Classic man, good for you! I bought one around 3 years ago and paid around $800, but mine came with box and tools too. I have well over $1000 in mine now though. I bought a gold bead patridge front sight for mine and also bought a wonderful set of Culina round to square conversion coke target stocks in Italian Olive wood for it too. If you don't care for rubber grips like myself and want a set of good looking wood grips that are still easy on the hands, bite the bullet and spend the bucks and get a set of Culina stocks.

Here is how mine sits nowadays.

OK, you got me. My gold bead front site arrived today. Did you keep the white outline rear site? I'm thinking about trying to find a plain black one.

I had been considering the purchase of a 629 with the endurance package. I'd put several on my watch list on the auction site and leave them there until their prices surpassed my budget. This one sat with no bids, so I threw my hat in the ring at the opening amount of $599.

I ended up being the only bidder. I figured that I must have missed something in the listing that drove away other potential bidders. I picked it up from my FFL last night and neither of us could find anything wrong with it.

I'm pretty sure this is the model I had a chance to shoot this afternoon. I know it was a 629 Classic, but I'm unsure of the dash. What a great hand cannon. Accurate too. I've added it to my "want to get" list.

Well... My first set of Culina stocks arrived today. The 629-3 now wears birdseye maple.

They look great on it, zipty6!

Just to give you some info, 3 weeks ago I went to the range with all 3 of my 44 mags, my 629-3 Classic, 29-6 Classic and my new-to-me 29-2 which are all wearing Culina stocks. I shot around 250 rounds of 44 mag, most of them loaded hot out of my 3 revolvers. At the end of the session my hand still felt good.

Is there a name for those stocks zipty? Like a size or model?

Thanks

They were referred to as "Birdseye Maple N round conversion target grip" in our email correspondence. I really can't say enough about the experience. I had never ordered custom grips before. They were very friendly and made the process easy.

If you want to talk to them, they are members of these forums, Inspector-Callahan. John goes by the name Kurak on the forums and his wife Jennifer is Grip_Makers_Wife. They are great people to deal with; I've bought 6 pairs of their stocks for my various N frame guns.

Best trigger I have ever felt. Spoiled me and I didnt even know it.
It was my 1st revolver purchase May 1991. Shortly after its release. 629-3. Close 2nd on the trigger is a 1953 K .22.
As I recall starting the next year they came out with a few variations. Over the next several years.
Extra sights, grips etc. Put a 2x leo on it in 97. Nothing but clovers after that.
Miss the price of ammo though... Used to shoot it weekly / back in the 90's........

Just looked through the box (Found the rear sight) Yea....
Also found an order form for additional front sights. $13.00 each.
And another sheet for the action package at the performance center.
Action package was $82.00, Grip options $20.00 Or both for $96.00
Honestly I can not imagine a better action / trigger stock. Mine feels under 2 lbs.
If thats possible.

Nothing wrong with paying a fair price. It's the guys that pay crazy prices for stuff they made zillions of is what I don't understand. Especially old LEO guns that were worn out when they hit the market at prices well above trade in prices.

Agreed... especially with the emboldened... There are some Smith Revo's that are close to the price they command however. 3" barreled Lew Horton M29 and M629's and M24's. And also some models of the 2.5"-3" barreled M66's in .357/.38Special.

I would have bought that M629 Classic OP for $599 all day!

The top pictured was worth every penny I paid... The bottom one, for $999 was too!

When do we get a range report? Loads? Accuracy at what distance?

It's funny reading these threads. Nice photos of clean guns and fancy grips- but no sign of being used... SIGH.
