My 66-2
I bought this sometime in the 1990s.
I think I paid 2400 Finnish marks, which was about 480 US dollars at the time.

What would be the price today?

Depending on where it was in the US, I'd say that gun would sell for right at $850-900 USD.

What would be a fair price ( buyer/seller) for what is in my opinion a shooter grade ( no box, pachmayr grips, some holster wear , mechanicaly excellent ) 2.5 inch model 66-2 ?

Just saw the same one locally - 66-2 with pachs, decent shape but not great. They were selling for $800, had a holster with it, and they were giving a $40 box of 357 gold speer defensive rounds. This is in Virginia. Hope it helps.

About 650-750 here. I purchased a 19-3 in 95% for $750 about a year ago with pachs. I later replaced with elk stag grips (which was $125). The one on the left in the attached pic.

M66 is great, BTW - M19/66 are the most practical S&Ws out there - pack the 357 in the smallest frame that shoots them well.

Forget the gun. Where can I find grips like that for $125 ?!?!?!?!?!

Love these guns. Had many over the years. This is the only one I have now.

One of the 66-1 revolvers I passed on had been issued to the Kentucky State Prison and wore a badge engraved on the frame, otherwise the revolver was pristine. I know that that engraving would have a negative impact on the value of the revolver, but I would still have bought it and would not have bothered me. The only thing prohibiting me from buying it was another shiny object somewhere else on another table at the gun show.
