Shooting problem ?

First post new member ? I have a S&W SS 1911 45 that i bought new and have put about 1300 rounds through it now of all different types & weights / powders (I reload) they all have functioned properly and been more accurate than I am capable of holding steady, my problem is that often when shooting this pistol it will shoot two, three, even four bullets before it stops, it doesn't do it all the time only sometimes, is it me the way I am holding the gun or is it the gun? others who shoot it are left wondering the same thing. I was an MP in the ARMY and back then we still had the 45 as our duty weapon I have had several 45's over the years and every once in a while they would do this too but this one does it a lot and the ARMY ones never did this as far as I Can remember. I even had the pleasure one day of shooting over 900 rounds just to shoot up the ammo rather than have to try to turn it back in at the end of a training exercise ! I don't remember that old rattler ever jamming, misfiring or even one time double firing, like this one does ! It does it so fast it you cant tell how many shots just went off !

This gun is bone stock just the way it came from S&W , I thought that it had something to do with my grip on the gun, like me not being able to get my finger off the trigger fast enough when the slide comes forward the motion of the recoil makes me actuate the trigger again possibly, I just hate the idea of sending any prized possessions through the US mail, UPS, FEDEX, none of them seem foolproof, guess that's what insurance is for

Your prize possession is an illegal machine gun that must be returned to the manufacturer ASAP!
Do not shoot it again, contact S&W customer service for a call tag, and they will pay all shipping and repair costs.
Simply firing it again if you know it will fire multiple times is a federal felony, regardless that you did not intend it to be that way. People have gone to prison for keeping and firing a malfunctioning full auto.

Point made, your rite ! hadn't thought about it that way , I will be sending it in. I certainly don't wish to be out side of the law I just had the feeling that this was just due to something I was doing wrong as the problem is intermittent ?

It does it so fast it you cant tell how many shots just went off !

At 600 rpm?
Typical hardware problem.

Ben there is no way , I couldn't pull it that fast if I was Flash Gordon himself, OKFCO5 must be rite there is something just not rite with this gun its like a machine gun when it happens and its done it with other people who were pre warned of the condition before hand I stumbled upon this site and searched through the forums to see if anyone else had had a similar experience before I joined and started this question , I was told buy one of my friends that he thought that the gun was returning to battery and the recoil was sufficient enough to push the gun forward into my finger due to a loose grip on the pistol, but I am just not sure and to be on the safe side I think that it would be a good idea to send it in and have them fix it or confirm that nothing is wrong/unsafe its just not very likely that other shooters would have the same reaction with this gun and not others therefore there must be something wrong.

Had to ask. I've seen it happen w Glocks when people shoot multiple rounds by accident because people couldn't keep their fingers off the triggers.

I can believe that , its just that its not just me who has had the same reaction with this gun and not others, other auto loader owners and my self have had this gun do this and other autoloaders that i own and they own don't do this somethings got to be wrong , had I put much thought into this I would have realized this on my own I just stumbled upon this site today and got to thinking about the times I have shot this gun and remembering the times it did this I just had assumed it was a fluke or that i was holding the trigger wrong that it had to be my fault somehow, and having now gotten others opinions I think there has to be something wrong with the gun.

I got online and wrote customer service with this problem to see if they have had any similar problems with this model and if they would be willing to take the time to check it for me just to be sure it will be peace of mind even if I am the problem and just need to practice more embarrassing yes but safe is better than sorry !

Without question..send it into S&W...better to be safe than sorry (even besides the legality part of it) and have them check out the firearm. Sounds like there are some issues with it.

Be sure to update the thread when you get it back in case others ever have this issue and use the search function so they know what to do with their firearm.

S&W isn't very good about answering e-mails. They have an 1-800- number. Call them. They will take good care of you.
